need advice: 996tt audio overhaul

The subwoofer enclosures they make look good, especially those that go behind the front seats on the bottom.
But where do they place the subwoofer's amplifier and what about wiring? Anyone know if the subwoofers can be used with the original head unit and just added on?

I am running a 6-channel JL audio amp (XD-600) that powers all six speakers, and an Alpine amp running a dedicated 6" Bazooka sub located between the rear seats and strut shelf. The sound is awesome and I have plenty of bass! The 4" speakers are JBL's and the 5.25' in both doors are Cerwin-Vega Vmax components that can easily handle the power, as well as sound very good. Also, I am able to speak clearly via bluetooth and others can hear it very well on the other end. The heart of the system is a Clarion DZ-709.
I have not been that impressed with Focal quality for the amount of money they cost. I have had excellent results with Cerwin-Vega and MB Quart - excellent bang for the buck.

There are adaptor amps for the Bose system, but your system is only as good as it's weakest link. If you have the stock BOSE system and you unhappy with it, don't waste your money trying to upgrade it. In the long run you'll get better sound, better nav, better ipod interface, better DVD player, better blue tooth, with all after market parts. The floor subs were nice before the 996. But with all the deck space in the 996 and beyond, just have a nice custom box built that looks like stock and keep you back seats for those rare times you need it. What component and speakers you use are personal choice. I've alway liked MB Quartz mated to soundstream amps, but thats just personal. You can use the amps in the head unit but if you check the specs, you'll realize these are also a compromise. I've always used seperate amps for all the channels and by passed the head unit amp.

I had the caraudioinnovations box and it was a nice unit, very well made. I did however find it not to be a worth while upgrade. The drivers are too small to really provide any sub bass. The ease of removal was a big plus however.
Now I am running 2x8's and it is a bit better, and still removable to save all of the weight. I am used to well designed systems with 10' and larger subs, anything smaller is a huge compromise. 10s are just huge for a 996 interior and you end up with a 100lb box that can't be taken out for the track/strip.

i would go with the HERTZ speakers in doors. 6.5 and tweeters up top, they are rated the number one speaker by far. My shop carries them. Then go with two JL Audio W7's in the rear. You wont be disappointed. Look at the reviews for the Hertz speakers....

I would like to see how you going to put two W7 in the rear. My custom installer couldn't even put an 8W7 without compromising the back seat. I am assuming because of the depth of the big magnet.

Here is what I am thinking of so far, either Hertz or JL 6.5" separates in the front with either of the newer 4x150w JL or Alpine amps, and a set of 6.5 JL subs in the back factory location (if they fit).
I really want a clean and simple install, the car is more for driving than listening. I really like Buddy G's install of the 3 JL's in the rear, I have a GMG roll cage so we would have to work around that if the oem locations dont work out, but would still probly go with the JL 6.5's to keep a low profile and keep weight down.
I really like some of the ideas people have posted, would love to see some more installs as well.

Nice system. Just for fun paint the Bazooka sub red add some NOS sticker to it and scare the hell out of everyone.

I made myself a nice little box for the back shelf and put 2 X 6.5 inch subs. I had room so I threw in a coubple more 6.5 Inifinity Kappas to round out the room. The base is excellent. I replaced the stock speakers with Infinity's as well. I did a whole pictorial DIY on the box creation here: http://www.comtech.ws/Porsche911/DIY...911SubBox.html
