Which exhaust has the most exotic sound?
#19
I had a Fabspeed with 100 cell cats and it sounded good but had a bit of drone to it. I now have Markski's 3 inch racing exhaust with 100 cell cats and it sounds fantastic especially over 3000 rpms. I find myself shifting a lot higher just to hear the thing sing. A big plus is I don't hear any drone with it either.

Can't speak for other types but the AE Performance exhaust doesn't even sound like a turbo, it sounds like an angry GT3. 5500rpm sounds like 7000rpm. 7000rpm sounds wild. I roll down my windows to hear the midrange tones when driving on city streets - that sound is exotic. No resonanse.

I have had 4 exhausts for the turbo and some sound better than others. None have the sound of an angry exotic... until now.
No cats, no mufflers...
This thing has a whistle even at idle, under a bridge sounds like you are at an f1 race with a football referee in the car, and the slightest blip of the throttle will scare small children. If it were possible to take the characteristics of this exhaust and cut the volume in half without muffling out the high pitched symphony all together, I would be all for it. Unfortunately, it seems that when you add a small muffler to the equation, it tones out the higher pitch and leaves you with that signature 996tt motorboat noise

I know the motorboat sound and it is de-moralizing.
The AE exhaust has some of these overtones which makes a high pitch exotic feel. And it doesn't drone, doesn't sound like a motorboat and the sound level is muted to an ok level if you are an enthusiast. I don't feel like a total idiot when driving around town, it's not that loud and most of all the sound isn't "stupid", it's cool. Also inside the car conversation is ok as well in 90% of the driving cases.
I'll try to get some sound clips.

I know this set up very well... but your car is probably too loud for 99.99% of the members. The trick is to get the unlike a standard after market exhaust sound and still be able to talk inside car... I see you used a off the shelf magnaflow X pipe.. only if it was that easy to make... here is what we go thru to make the X.... a painful long process...

After all these years, the old school Fabspeed (gen 1, not what they sell now)STILL sounds the best. I think it was/is the only fully straight-through (ex right side turbo exits on the left side of the car) design. Very menacing sound.

I have that exhaust, the one is the louder sport cats. It's very nice just the drone from 2300-2800 rpm but sounds like a really race car......nice

I had a gen 1 Fabspeed on my old 996. Nice sound but the drone was pretty bad.
I have Markski's exhaust on my 996TT now and the sound is amazing, so is the craftsmanship. Better sound than the old Fabspeed and NO DRONE. IMO its the best sounding exhaust for our cars.
