I have not driven a X50 and dont know how much of an improvement in performance it has over a NON X50 TT, but I do know about the differences between a TT and GT2, it is a tough decision to take a X50 though considering dealers pay $0 over a NON X50 back to you on a trade, the option has no value on the used market to dealers.

FYI - the X50 does NOT have supplementary transmission cooling!! Only the GT2 does (techart offers one but for like 7K and can only be done in Germany)

My friend has an X50. There is more turbo lag at low rpm's. He got an exhaust which helped alot but still more turbo lag than standard turbo. The difference compared to a standard turbo is mostly at high rpm's at highway speed. I have EVO/GIAC stage 2 chip, Cargraphic exhaust, DV's, and an airfilter. I drove the cars back to back after "finally" upgrading my ECU. My car feels quicker and the rush of power is amazing. Don't get me wrong, his car is fast, but, the difference between a standard turbo to an X50 turbo isn't as big imo as the difference between an X50 and my stage 2 EVO. At least that was my experience. Who knows what others think??

Very helpful information guys. I'm definitely leaning towards a non X50 vehicle. $18,000 for the increase in hp that Porsche gives up just doesn't sound right. Now I just hope my dealer can make good on his word that he can get me an allocation.

Ok guys and GT2gal,

I'm getting ready to order a Turbo. The question remains, and I know some are against and some are for, should I pay the extra $18,000 and get the X50 option? I would think that for a little (or a lot) less money I could get a better deal on a few engine mods that would make equal or better power. Thanks for the help guys!
Heck if it were me.. I would save the 18k and do the upgrades properly. Spent 18k (or much less) with Stephen and Kevin and you will surely get a lot more HP than the X50 option. The X50 is so much to pay for so little extra...

I would go by what Ken said earlier. If your not going to mod, than X50 with an exhaust, DV's and air filter. If you plan to mod than a non X50 car is the way to go. Simple as that.

Now some of us have gone by that theory but not followed it... That would be ME!!

I just confirmed my order for a 2004 TT coupe and ended up getting the X50 package. My reasoning was that the only mod I will probably add is a new exhaust, having a full factory warranty made the additional money for the X50 package worth it to me.

I went through this same reasoning process when I bought my car. I chose to go non X50 because I knew I would want more power.

You pay can pay 18K for 450hp, or spend 19.5k on a Ruf 520hp upgrade (or in my case, 25k for 550+hp).

Ruf gives a 1 year full warranty, and many here can attest to their legendary support.

The warranty issue is definitely something to think about. If you do something in terms of modification, I do believe there are outfits that will stand by their product (many post on this board).

Besides, I think all of the non engine related warranty would still apply through Porsche.

I did the same, for the same reason. You will be happy.
