This week Michael at GSR Motorsports (Lake Forest, CA - close to Newport Beach) saved me from potential breakdown and huge costs following that, and he made me fall in love with my car again bc it's simply amazing to drive again.

Immediately after a tranny/clutch mod I had done (at a different shop - during a couple of months time), I have had multiple "breakdowns" (stranded with the car) every 5 days since picking the car up, each one more annyoing than the next. Leaking pentosin all over the tranny (GT2 mod plugs not done right), screaming pentosin reservoir control valve (PS pump drive coupler not removed), 6th gear jammed (gearbox rebuild - shop paid for that one), clutch disc stuck to flywheel (pressure plate gap wrong - it was a 1000hp full metal clutch that died from normal driving with 525hp crank).

I was ready to scrap this car and start over but I took it to Mike/GSR to have a look at it and he cleaned up all of the above.

Plus he also detected that the LSD drop in had been done with no shimming (LSD bounced around 1/4" inside the tranny with huge damage potential). Other small item was that the pressure plate was bolted on with too short bolts waiting to come loose. So he took care of all that (obviously after telling/showing me and asking for my decision), he also swapped bearings for the clutch pivot arm to assure no creaking coming up soon, he removed the PS pump drive coupler, he removed the hydraulic lines from the TT assist system (will never install again so I wanted them off the car), he plugged of all holes neatly, swapped a damaged LSD bearing (damaged after 170 miles) and set the backlash tight, had my flywheel and pressure plate professionally resurfance and measured - plus hooked me up with a fitting disc with the right capacity and great feel. It was not cheap but so far I pretty much did everything myself so I guess it was time I had a more expensive job done. And boy it felt like a new car.

So if you look for a really responsible guy who takes care about the car he works on, and the customer, and takes time to call when he finds something other than just the job you ordered - and takes time to show all the stuff during (if you stop by) and afterwards - this is a great place to go.

They are in Lake Forest. Mike is know as Boxster Spec series tech specialist, his crew has won Tribute to Le Mans campaigning 996 GT3 RSR at least once.

He doesn't know I'm posting this and I paid pretty much for the job (bc it was a big job, no unreasonable charges whatsoever) and I am not affiliated. I just want to let you guys know of a great, trustworthy place to go in SoCal run by really really knowledgeable people.

There is nothing like having an honest, fully knowledgeable tech to give you that confident feeling when serious work has to be done on your car. Luckily I have a local guy like that named Geoff Schwarz at ASG here in the Balt/Wash area.

The original mod was done by a guy with his mind on other things - the guy is a great guy overall and my personal speculation is that his focus has simply totally gone to smth else (upcoming career change) and that attention to detail went with that too.

In a way I got lucky that my clutch disc stuck to the flywheel bc it had me bring the car to GSR who found the LSD issue, worn out pivot arm needle bearing etc.

Thx to GSR my drivetrain now feels like new.

+1. A really good mechanic is hard to find. Some guys have attention to detail that you just don't find that often.
