SPI E900 GTR vs. Protomotive 996 TT
#46
When I sold my TT Gallardo, I was torn on what to get next. I decided on a nice modded 997 TT. I drove down to OH to drive and hopefully purchase the car with cash in hand. The car was drop dead gorgeous and very nicely modded. When I drove the 997 TT for the first time and coming from a Gallardo, it did nothing for me. I cam home empty handed.
I decided to test drive a GTR (a car I NEVER thought I would own) the next day and I bought it on the spot. I guess that oughta tell you how I felt about the GTR in comparison to the 997 TT (6speed). To me, honestly, there wasn't much of a comparison. The only feature I liked about the Turbo more was the PCCB and the way it looked, everything else (interior, handling, comfort, tranny, technology, etc.) I liked more in the GTR.
Different strokes for different folkes. At the end of the day, we buy what we like.
Now, back on topic......Brad, you ready for round 2?

Awesome. Keep me posted, Brad. Looking forward to meeting you again and running the cars once more.
Neither. It was a Doug Levin bolt on TT kit. I can't speak for the 06+ MY Gallardos, but my 04 started to feel ancient.

Thanks buddy. Keep in touch.

He was already on race gas, and running 1.5 bar which IIRC, is right around 850 rwhp. His kill mode map is 1.7 bar which yields 890 rwhp.
I am sure next time around will be much closer, with the GTR just a tad ahead.. (this thread has been way to civilized. It needs some drama, )

Even if Brad's car has greater HP than your car, no one with old school manual tranny is able to beat your double clutch tranny.

He was also short-shifitng the car, losing app. 80 rwhp in each gear as well as a considerable amount of time under the curve.
The car actually made 890 at 1.6 BAR, so 1.7 should yield 920 or so. If/when his car is running like it's supposed to, has quality C16 in it, and he shifts at 7800 rpm, I think you'll repeatedly get the jump on him, but he will reel you in and eventually pass you, depending on when you guys shut down, similar to the race in this video:

As I mentioned before, I'll be happy to fly out and drive the 996 if Brad wants me to.

Remember, he was using 3 year old C16 that had become de-homogenized with particles of lead floating around in it. The fuel was bad enough that the car was knocking and pulling timing at around 1.45 BAR or so.

I already told Brad that he can have whoever he wants to drive the car for him. You, Mark, whoever. But, I also mentioned to him that he is not an incompetent person, and with a little bit of direction and pointers from veterans sunch as yourself, Mark, or I, that he will be able to dirve it just fine. But I know if it were me and someone else drove my car to victory, I wouldn't be feel satisfied nor pleased with the fact that I had to have someone else drive the car to win a race. If he is OK with having someone else drive the car for him then that's fine, come on down, and let's dance..
Also, that video with the GT2 is a little different situation. I spoke with Jamie about this race and he told me he was not running full boost. He also told me that after the race Tym made some adjustments to his car to make it run as it should on the top end. Jamie wanted a rematch with the GT2 after the adjustments, but they never got around to it. And remember, that GT2 is 2-300 lbs lighter than Brad's car.
I guess what I am trying to say is.....Short shifting or not, fresh gas or not, that car won't beat me from a 45-150.. (Brad, am I getting you pumped up enough yet? lol)
I am ready when you are. I don't mind getting beat by a car that makes 300+ more whp than me..

We'll just have to wait and see.

Let me rephrase my last statement so we are on the same page...
I don't think that car will beat me on the SAME setting (1.5 BAR) as last time, regardless of how much better it is driven or the type of gas it has in it from a 45-150.
Now, once you start talking 1.7 bar and 900+ whp, I am sure it will come around me before 150. If it doesn't, then Brad needs to ditch that 911 and buy a GTR and send it to SPI..
