Well I have an oil change coming up so I will probably use the M1 TDT or the M1 5W40 or BG 5W40 - if I forego the Diesel oil and use the one of the later two synthetics I will add a can of the BG MOA to introduce extra ZDDP and proven additive/conditioning package

Just switched from Mobil 5w - 40 TDT to Mobil 1 5w- 40 Delvac. I have an 07 TT with basically the same motor as the 996 TT (with few changes). Just moving away from Mobil 1 0w-40 to these oils made a difference in reducing the IMS noise. I cant really say that the Delvac is much different than the TDT with regard to noise but either oils make a difference. Whats funny is my IMS noise is louder right after I do an oil change. As time goes on it gets a little better. I sent an oil sample back to Blackstone (as i always do) and my copper was higher than average with only 4000 miles since the last oil change. Being concerned I emailed the oil report to Kevin and he spent 1/2 on the phone with me explaining whats going on and reassuring me that if I follow his recomendations and monitor my oil filter for metal shavings I should be fine. So far my oil filter is metal free. Thanks kevin for taking the time to talk to me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I've started with Castro Syntec 5w50 since I owned the car. The cold viscosity between Ow and 5w is negligible. The hot flash point of 50W is a good margin of safety.

My shop told me that the diesel stuff will work to quiet the IMS noise but advised me not to run the Diesel oil in the non diesel porsche, they explained to me why but I didn't undertand it all something about the oil and wear charecteristics and differences in contamiment levels on oil and petrol engines etc...I don't think that reduction in IMS noise is directly related to performance of the oil, who established this relational comparision index? I was offered my choice of whatever I wanted to run and went with Mobil 1 S 5/40 with BG MOA additive for the Zddp ... car seems to run quite well...I could have conw with the castrol or motul both of which my guy said were fine also...

I'll stick to Rotella Syn 5w-40 & a Mann Oil Filter...everything from Advance Auto Parts.

M1 high mileage now has ZDDP

I'm going with M1 high mileage 5w-40. I never get chatter and that oil has a good amount of Zinc now, so better wear protection!

Can somebody describe IMS noise and also lifter noise for me please?

I had my car serviced at a dealership and the car now makes a 'rattling' noise

Amongst other jobs, I had the oil, plugs and coils changed

I'd like to figure out if I've got an IMS and/or hydraulic lifter noise due to a different oil being used, or if I perhaps have a loose coil/spark plug

Thanks
