How you did better 60-130 or 1/4 mile with or without AWD ??
#19
+++1000000000
The whole idea of these cars is to be able to put 10000000000hp to the tarmac from the 4WD system!!! As soon as u go RWD, its like any other RWD Merc, BMW etc.. Will spin the wheels at any speed at that power!!
#20
Ok,but why almost every 996tt with big horse power and best 1/4 mile time,at this forum, go RWD ??
#23
no i never compared.
you will still have traction issues AWD but its alot more manageable.
best 1/4mile times for those cars all came on drag radials.
AWD I run 0-60 in 3.5sec on the street consistently, RWD best I did was 3.8 on street tire.....most runs would be in 4.0 range

Just PS2s, and Conti Sport Contacts. I don't track often, 1 or 2 times a year to get the itch out. Even then I'm going home by noon to 1PM (half day).
I run my street file 91 octane (1.3 BAR) with 100 octane gas for the safety factor at the track always. Just feel that provides me with great overhead.
I followed Mr. White's advice to run the hankooks RS3s (so much cheaper) at super low 31/32 PSI HOT at the track and the grip was so phenomenal. Outran My father in law's 7Gt3 by a lot! I really felt these were the best gripping tires I have ever driven. I love them so much that I run them (18") on the street exclusively. A very grippy tire and a very smooth ride due to a more flexible sidewall. I also run 33 front and 40 rear to add to the cush ride.
Now for a reality check. I'm a decent driver, but at the track you're driving with the top 1% of street drivers. I don't have the concentration to run all out 100% of the time. I do half a lap at 98% and then slow down and enjoy myself at 85%. Some dude in a new mustang GT with slicks passed me pretty good. Who cares really, I'm having fun, not racing.
It's all about the driver out there anyways, no question about that. I have no qualms getting passed up by whatever. But high tire pressures make the tires very slippery (greasy) as they heat up on the track. At street inflation pressures you can easily exceed 50 PSI when pushing the tires so hard.
