Product Review: IPD Turbo and Header BLANKETS!
#16
MBailey,
Thanks for all the information in your post. I can't say that I have made any Mexico runs lately but I have an IPD turbo blanket on my 2009 JCW Mini Cooper and the difference I notice is simply more power sooner even on a single turbo 1.6 liter. Another big advantage for the turbo Mini is that heat builds up under the hood to the point that the plastic hood scoop will deform ( I am on my third hood scoop) but with the IPD turbo blanket the heat under the hood is reduced to the point that I can safely touch the hood scoop after 20-30 minute drive and before the IPD turbo blanket that would feel like touching melting plactic.

I've been one of the test cars for Mike at IPD he put blankets on my 997 tt headers & turbos & have had them on for about 3 months now , with no problems what so ever & can tell you they just work & with an easy install no header removal or turbo removal needed it's a no brainer imho .As soon as we put them on on my 1st run around the corner from the shop my y pipe popped off which hasn't given me problems in over a year,i also do runs with some of the local boys & noticed that i was pulling away quicker from some of the same guys that i wasn't before.

Going to add more data to the thread soon with PBox of my pump gas tune with the blankets. Stay tuned!!

Hi Mike,
Very interesting, I think we all would like to lower the engine compartment temperature. My only reservation is long term heat retention on the turbos and any resulting damage. Will be interesting to learn more as time passes.

so how do these compare to ceramic coating?
obviously, the install is much easier and quicker, but I assume the end result will be similar? and when you combine the two? (ceramic coating and then the blankets?)
excellent write up and thanks for sharing!

These are much more effective insulators than ceramic. I actually touched the header while car was running and did not get burned! Dont try touching a ceramic coated header if car is warmed up and running! LOL!! Probably if you combined ceramic coating with blankets the insulating effect would probably be even greater...
