Flashing / Blinking CEL

I know that it's not good to have a blinking / flashing cel. So, here is the situation:

- After changing out the trans. mount on my X50 tip, I took it for a drive. Felt great. So I go wideopen throttle and then I get a blinking CEL

- Drove back home staying off of boost. Noticed slight hesitation/shuttering in the lower rpms from like 1750 to 2250 rpms.

- Did a boost leak test when I got home after the car cooled off. Heard small leak(s) coming from the DVs. The leak sound changed when I fiddled with DVs so pretty sure it's in this area. But I wasn't able to take it apart to see what I could find (ran out of sunlight). I also found a leak on the oil filler tube (not at the top where the cap is, but towards the back of the oil filler tube)

- The CEL did not come on after I turned the car off and then on. No codes were found when I checked with my Durametric

- Drove the car to work this morning and I felt the slight hesitation/shuttering at lower rpms again. After about 3 miles the CEL started blinking again, but stopped blinking when I parked the car. Turned the car off, then on again and the CEL did not come back on.

Maintenance history/mods:

- Changed the oil and filter last week. I changed the plugs (to deal with the increased horsepower) and coils (997 coils) about a year ago. Have a Protomotive tune, Milltek exhaust, Markski intercoolers, 5 bar fpr, Evoms DVs, Greddy EBC, 1 bar wastegate springs, 75k on the odometer

- I will look for codes again when I get home. Any thoughts? The leaking DVs? The leaking oil filler hose? MAF? Wastegates set too high and/or not opening up at the same time? Re-adjust the camshaft adjustment with my Durametric? Broken mounting bracket on the sensor next to the spark plugs? Bad O2 sensors? Have I missed anything?

- I just would like ideas at where to look so I can start eliminating everything I can. Thanks.

the leak is pre turbo when it stutters below 3K... OR your maf took a dump...
disconnect the maf and duplicate the issue...

what does the durametric say? code?

When you say pre turbo, What are you referring to? inlets to the turbo?

Hey Markski,

When I hooked up my Duremetric to read the codes last night nothing showed up. I'm going to read the codes again when I get home to see if anything is popping up. If it is pre-turbo and I unplug the MAF, what should I be looking/listening for?

From airbox/maf to the turbos... OR the maf altogether... my point is , whenvever someone works on a car and then comes back with CEl then you just messed up something during the install.. the issues doesnt come on its own...

Sometimes you can get blinking CEL that disappears if car is intermittently misfiring. When did you do plugs/coils last?

I guess I shouldn't have been so impatient and waited to get home before posting this thread......but seeing my car all morning through my office window got the better of me!

I hooked up my Durametric as soon as I got home and got the ol' misfire codes. Specifically, P0300 and P0303 (cylinder 3). I have spare Denso PK20PR-P8 plugs and will change out cylinder 3 this week. I have changed my plugs out at least twice and replaced the coils with 997 coils since buying the car 4 years ago so this is a project I'm familiar with. How common is it for only one plug go bad though? Is this an indication of something amiss with cylinder 3?

I just hope this resolves this problem so I can move on to finding that pesky boost leak around my DVs!

A little odd that it all happened after you changed the trans mounts....

Check your tappet solenoid bracket for cracking. When they fail, it will cause those codes. It can even fail internally without the bracket cracking, so if all else fails, you may want to explore this area..
