Cabrio 911 Turbo vs 911 Trubo hardtop.
Hi Guys,
I've been trying to find some definitive answers to this. Basically, i'm in the market for a 996 turbo and there is a really nice 996 cabrio near me in my budget range. Only problem is I never really wanted a cabrio, because I'm worried about body flex and weight.
How much flex can be expected in a cabrio? Also what is the weight difference between the 3300LBS hardtop and the cabrio carpoint.com has no info on this. Google didn't turn up much nor did wiki 996.
I lap my cars about 15-20% of the time and I don't want a car that plays the accordion on me.
I found the hard tops are around 3300 LBS but can't find anything on the Cabrio's.
BTW nice to see familiar supraforum faces here like Steve Jarvis. :P

If you're tracking your car regularly, I'd skip the Cabrio. I own one and find it quite stiff, but I think you mind find many tracks don't allow them.
Be patient. Lots of them out there. Wait for the right car.

i own both a 996tt cab and coupe, cab for very nice days and the coupe for pure fun, if you are going to track the car id go coupe, with limited time on a track and more cruising around I would grab my Cab keys all day.

I show the base weight of the 911 turbo at 3,395 (usually closer to 3,475 with options.
The only weight I found for a 911 turbo cabrio was 3,660. It appears the cabrio weighs 265 pounds (3,660 - 3,395) more than the coupe. This appears reasonable for a coupe versus convertible. Is some cars it's closer to 400 pounds.
As people have said, go with the coupe if you're tracking the car.
Later, Steve
