it is amazing that stock sedans like the M5 has gotten so fast these days.. it is prob the perfect all arounder for the streets..

This can be called the race of elephants ... except for the RUF CTR which weighs 3000lbs, everything else was pushing 2 tons.

Cool. Airfield days are a great way of stretching the legs of the cars, in a safe environment. We are of course very lucky in having 2 mile runways to use (3200m).

The Ruf looks odd to me to be a CTR, it looks like a widebody, with a 3.8 RS rear-wing. I am assuming it is a CTR engine conversion on a 964 rather than an original CTR (as they were all narrowbody). Is this the case?

That's what I'm thinking as well. It's the rain gutters that clued me in. RUF always shaved those off in his CTR's. This doesn't take away from the car itself.

Thanks Eric for this wonderful report. I test drove the M5 a couple of months back and I share your conclusion that it doesn't feel as fast as it should feel. Maybe that's because it's very smooth.

Here's the history: The owner bought a crashed RUF CTR and put all the parts into an existing car. Therefore it's a bit 'different', but still goes like stink. Unfortunately the swedish authorities won't approve it, at least not with the RUF logo on the engine... (for some reason...)

I ran across this post. Seems a bit contradictory to your opening post in this topic Erik. How can a 500 HP elephant weighing over 4000 lbs HUMILIATE a Turbo S with a better torque curve and only 50 HP less. Furthermore, how can the same elephant beat a 500 HP Gallardo and a 510 HP 996TT, both weighing considerably less?

I was wondering the same thing....these M5 stories just don't compute.
