Cargraphic Sport Exhaust Drone - 996TT Cab

Cargraphic Sport Exhaust Drone - 996TT Cab
I recently installed a cagraphic sport exhaust with high flow cats on my 996tt cab...Based on my research, I was under the impression that cargraphic was drone free...However, between 2k-3k rpm, the exhaust has considerable drone. It's at the point where you can't really enjoy the car on the freeway...could there be a problem with the install or is there a easy fix?
Thanks for your help. BTW car is flashed and has a bmc filters as well.

td,
Unfortunately, I think that most likely you are stuck with that attribute. I see this all the time. Most 996TT exhausts drone and the conventional designs vs. cross-flow seem to be worse. And cabs are worse than coupes. After experiencing the same as you describe, years ago, I set out to make a drone free exhaust for the 996TT. We took our original 3" crossflow exhaust and created a hybrid 2.5" version of it. By testing and re-testing packing density, tip shape and pipe sizing, etc., we developed what I consider to be a virtually drone free exhaust for the 996TT. There is the slightest amount of drone in the RPM you mentioned, but it is extremely slight and totally acceptable based on the feedback I have received from satisfied customers and extensive testing of this system. Additionally, it is very comfortable to me (and I am very sensitive to drone). I can help you if you are interested in what I and many others consider a very comfortable system with superior sound attributes. Our cross-flow system sounds absolutely fantastic and has been dialed in through years of testing. IMO, it's the best sound you are going to find for a 996TT - similar to the coveted GT3 sound.

I installed some Second Skin Damplifier Lite 30SQFT under the back seats and "package shelf". This eliminated 99% of the drone and reduced sound levels over all inside the car.
It does not take long to install as it is just peel and stick. Not sure what you would have to do on a cab though.

most exhausts drone a little... no matter what you say.. some more some less..
I have heard most of the popular ones and haven't yet seen a drone free one...
I would never say mine is drone free... but compared to others its not as bad.,.. that is why I also make them per order and can adjust the unwanted noise ...
good luck

Jimmy,
I don't feel that you can have free flow and maintain the OEM sound level. The reason the OEM is so quiet is because of the dual restrictive cats, and non free-flow nature of the muffler design, etc. As soon as you go opening it up for flow, you get more sound. Our 2.5 X-flow is a pretty good compromise for performance vs. sound - with optional 200 cell cats, it's even quieter and I think yu would be very pleased....

Hi,You should check out A Milltek system.I am very happy with mine.,,it is on the quiet side compared to most after market systems, makes power and no drone....I had a Cargraphics med. sound before the Milltek...An X-pipe has a louder and different sound then the Milltek, which does sound good also.......Good Luck

John,
I have experience with the Milltek and will offer that not all X-pipes are louder than Milltek.
Our standard 3.0 is louder, but can also be configured to be about the same. Our 2.5 X-flow is quieter.

Thanks John for that info..Good to know..I thought my Milltek was quieter... If I ever up grade to your system I would go to the 3'' then...If I did not get a good deal on this Milltek ,I would have gone with your system..You did supply great service about your exhaust....

My ears are extremely sensitive to drone and I've listened to a bunch of 996tt exhausts out there. Many were touted as "drone free" but they weren't to my ears. The only one I have been happy with is the RUF exhaust with 100 cell cats I have on my 550 Rturbo. Nice and deep with a bit of a jet like whistle at wide open throttle. Drone, or lack there of, is comparable to OEM. I believe someone here has a custom made "quiet" version of the RUF exhaust here for sale, may actually be John at Speedtech. May be worth a try... My ultimate advice is to actually listen to the exhaust you are considering before spending the cash because drone is very subjective and varies from individual to individual as our ears may be sensitive to different frequencies. I believe the shape of the tips will even affect it as John's speedtech dual tip is supposed to have less drone than the single tip.

I have a a 3" Speedtech that has a little bit of drone around 2500 RPM on a hardtop 996TT.
I installed some Second Skin Damplifier Lite 30SQFT under the back seats and "package shelf". This eliminated 99% of the drone and reduced sound levels over all inside the car.
It does not take long to install as it is just peel and stick. Not sure what you would have to do on a cab though.

The only drone I hear is from people complaining about it! There is so many threads on it and John from Speedtech fixed that problem years ago. Anyone who is a member here and still buys the wrong (crazy drone) exhaust should learn how to use the search feature. If you really cant take it use 5th!
