996 GT2 Suspension done right for street?
Posted simular tread in Gt3/Gt2 portion of the site and realised what people in that section might be focused more on the track
If everything goes well I'll be picking up 2002 low miles GT2 next week
I have a pretty good idea where I'm taking engine - going to try for about 580-600 rwhp on the pump gas.
Breaks would be left alone, on trany - SSK and better clutch
In my opinion suspension is what is going to make or brake that car
I'm trying to have a best possable suspensio without going broke and MOST importantly without killing street drivability
Car is going to spend most of it's time on the street and I can be very agressive driver from time to time when it's safe
I'm trying to figure out best street suspention parts without making ride too harsh
KWs V3s is defenetly a good option as i do have a lot of experience with them.
on different part of tthe spectrum we have a Blistein but I'm not even sure what they will make much difference compared to the stock setup
What about Moton/JRZ/JIC/ProTrack - I understand what they are better track setups but how are they going to behave on the street?
I live in NY to make matters worse
Also some additional parts were recomended to help with geometry all by GMG
Dog Bones
Bump toe steer kit front
Bump toe steer kit rear
RSR style thrust arm adjustable with anti dive and anti squat on bouth ends
Thrust arm bushings car set
GMG WC sway bar kit
Would any of them make a ride harsher?
How much of the benefit would they really have?
Also - Strut tower bars - Used them on AMGs with great success - would they work well for Porsche?
Any advise would be appreciated - please steer me right

I just ordered Motons for my GT2, which is mainly a street car. I am not an expert, but I can tell you they can be set up for whatever environment you intend on; Lemans or your work commute. The only real downside is they are very expensive. If you are looking to save money, Moton's may not be for you.

Search and find the postings from Graham (80shilling). He set up his GT2 perfectly and posted an enormous amount of info that should be helpful.
Time frame way around Jan- Feb 2010 if I recall.
Good luck!

We have extensive experience with the 996 GT2 as we have had our shop GT2 since 04 and that car is regularly. Its probably one of the best set up GT2's out there.
I would be happy to recommend a very street friendly option for you.
The parts recommend would be a good starting point.
Feel free to email me directly and I would be happy to help with any questions you may have.

I have no issue or complaints about the factory suspension, which is a great 3-way adjustable coil-over system. For me it is just part of the fun of owning a car like this; to explore the limits of the latest advances, bring a 9-year-old car back up to the cutting edge, while tricking it out with cool, high-end components.

Leave it alone. You're not going to out drive the stock GT2 suspension on the street, especially as a first time GT2 owner. If you do then you are foolishly risking your life and others on the street......Instead, invest money in some track time and some coaching to really take the car to the limit.

+1 You bought a GT2 because it came from the factory already set up for occasional track use. I'd leave it the way it is.

You have a few options here:
1. buy a regular GT2, and get a decent alignment. The alignment alone is going to make woners to how the car drives. As others have mentioned, that's all you'll ever need on the street.
2. Consider the GMG WCGT2 that I linked here again. This car seems to be done right and already has everything; Power, Handling, wheels, seats etc. You will save a lot of money by buying it already done.
Since Fabryce has already chimmed in here, maybe he car give some more details about this car.
As far as the Motons go - I have them too on my car. For the South FL streets they are perfectly fine, but I think they may be a bit too much for NY (not even thinking about NYC). Obviously they are adjustable and you can get softer springs, so just referring to my specific setup.
EDIT - here is a great read on the Moton's - https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...uspension.html

My question is more about Moton vs KW on the streets ))))))))))
As far as suspensions go - I need them to be as good as they can be because car is fast, agressive and has no traction control - I need car to be controlable.
For example - My fully tricked out W210 E55 with properly adjustet suspensions - I drove it in the snow cople times and it was fine - drive it in the rain a lot
Got another car - same year, simular engine mods actyaly pushing less power, but without suspension and LSD - spon it in the mild rain and car felt unsafe even on the dry until I replicaed sespensions from my over car
Good and properly set up suspensions is a difference not only between fun and boring but life and death

The factory gt2 suspension is more than adequate for street and even track duty and is safe for the car...an aftermarket suspension kw or moton is not gonna prevent you from spinning this car in the rain...your ability as a driver will be the only thing doing that. Keep the gt2 stock and use the suspension money for some drivers schools or driver coaching. The suspension on any car will not determine life or death assuming a contol arm or a component does not fail... The things that will make an impact are things like brake condition, your pedal transitions and throttle modulation, your understanding of power on vs trailing throttle overseers conditions etc etc ... If safety and contol are on your mind and you feel like the car can get away from you them maybe you would like the awd of the turbo over the rwd and no traction control of the gt2, it's not the car ford everybody and it's not the easiest or most compliant car to drive... afterall it's nicknamed widow maker for a reason
