Got new tires, but all is not well

After a year of reading about having the wrong tire sizes, I finally decided to replace my 235/35/19 and 295/30/19 to the correct 235/35 and 315/25 using Nitto Invo's. Well, the rears fit perfectly and gave the rear of the car the right look. The problem is the front 235's look stretched and dont cover the wheel lip very well compared to the same size pirelli's I took off.

The stampings inside the wheel say its a 9.5 inch which is a bit wide for a 235, but the Pirelli fit perfectly, so I didn't expect to have this problem.

The only other tire that will match the rear ratio is a 265/30, but I dont want to have to roll the fenders, So what do I do?

The good news is the car shifts better from 1st to 2nd and much of the road noise is gone, the bad news is my beautiful wife is giving me crap about fixing things that arent broken as my service writer at the dealer told us not to worry about the 235/295 setup since they sold the previous owner the wheels and tires.

I run 265/35-18s on a 9" rim, lowered to GT2 heights...no rolling the fender.

All depends on the offset.

The 265 will only be 15mm closer to the fender as compared to the 235...so about 5/8 inch...are you sure it wont work?

porschetec is infamous around these parts
every brand fits a little differently even though they have the same aspect ratio.

i know that tires such as toyo tend to have thinner looking tire walls

The rim is stamped 9.5x19 49. So if its a 49 offset, should the 265/30 fit with no rubbing?

Im going to have a conversation with Nitto Tire today and see if they'll help. I remember when researching tires, one of the manufactures had a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, I hope it was them.

Anyone else running a 235 on a 9.5inch rim? How does it fit for you?

Ard, not sure whether or not it will work, but I dont want to purchase 2 more tires and have 2 sets I'm not happy with. Who else runs a 235 on a 9.5 inch rim? How does it fit?

Nothing you can do. The rim is 9.5...the section width is just under 9.5.

(The section width is the width of the 'fat part' of the tire)

I won't venture an opinion on the 265 on your car, I just dunno.

Thanks Ard.

Per the tire rack spec section, the previous Pirelli was 9.3 inch width, so the nitto should be wider at 9.49.

Nothing I like more than curing 1 problem and creating another.

But the shape of the side wall, the shoulder at the mounting bead, and the actual TREAD width all combine to influence how it will look.

A wheel stamped 9.5" wide is actually 10.5" wide when measured from the outside of the outboard wheel lip to the outside of the inboard wheel lip. The official 9.5" width is measured from the wheel portion that the tire bead seats against. A 235 tire section width is generally 9.5" (give or take) and as a result you are having to stretch it about an inch on a 9.5 wheel.

^^ I think the OPs point will be "the Pirellis were OK on the same rim"

Anyway, I purposefully purchased 9" rims that can be shod with 235/40 or 265/35s (in PS2s, 18".) Same rim width, two tire choices to match the 315.30-18 rear.

A 9.5 rim is really too wide for a 235, no matter the brand. IMO

I agree, I don't believe you gain anything with a 9.5 vs 9.0 rim except extra weight. A 9.0 allows you to run a 265 easily.

The wheels came with the car and it was the first time they were removed. I didnt even bother to measure as the pirellis were perfect.

Funny thing is the rear looks perfect in person but the pic looks like its not flush either.

Anyone know the going price of 2 inner barrels? Maybe I should make them 8.5 or 9

I run a 9.5" ET 46 wheel and 265 up front. These rims are almost 5lb lighter than stock and 10lb lighter than GT2 wheels. I think anything that gives you more offset (or moves the wheel towards the fender) including, spacers and obviously wider wheels will have some minor rubbing issues at part steering angles. I haven't seen any real issues with this minor rubbing over thousands of miles. The car is almost never at those steering angles at speed so you'e only touching at driveway speeds..

I do know that if you're motivated enough, you can move the fender liner and radiators forward about 1". Hit up user Sambo. I know he had this done.

Do you know the brand of wheel you have? Let's see some pictures of the wheel face.

Finally, review your specif wheel model and manufaturer sizes. I found that the perfect diameter match for the 315s was a 245 on the Hankooks....

Ari-- they are 3 piece Champions and look like yours. Are you running 18 or 19? and what offset? mine are marked 49.

Anyone in South Florida have an old crappy 265/30/19 I could try?

Boca996-- They were installed at my house (Tiresonsite.com) and I drove around the block once to make sure there was no rubbing with the 315 rears. I will let you know once I go for a ride. Since I'm trying to work this out between my tire guy and Nitto, I dont want to wear the nubs off in case they take them back but require that they be brand new condition.
