Recaro pole position seats a good alternative or something to avoid?

I am planning to get a seat of recaro pole position seats and wanted to know if anybody has had issues with them (mounting them, not comfortable, issues with harness, etc). I want a seat of gt3 seats but refuse to pay $4500 and have not seen many used ones become available. I did a search on the forum but there wasn't much info so would appreciate input from people that have had the pole position ones in their 996TT - I know the GT3 ones are better but trying to save $2k here! Thanks
Thanks!

Is the mounting any different or more complicated than the GT3 seats? I understand that I have to buy the recaro mounts but would like to know if it is a pretty easy weekend install (remove bolts, remove seats, put new seats). Thanks

Yea its pretty easy. I built the rails and installed both driver and passenger Recaro SPG seats in one night.

Good Luck!

I would prefer an off the shelf solution vs. having to build the rails as you did. Why did you decide to build them? I understand that I need 3 different parts:
recaro side mounts, rails, and the bar under the seat for the harness, right?
And YES pics would be great!

i had leather pp and when they came the side and sliders needed to be mounted to seats. total cost was over 3k. i have since moved on to the 997 carbon sport buckets. i liked the pp but find the gt3 euro or the carbon sport buckets more comfortable. im 6" 190 lbs as a guide.

Brand new GT3 seats from Porsche are $4500 a pair? Can you can choose the leather color to match your car?

yes indeed - check suncoast. My car has boxster red interior and they do have them in that color which looks amazing. I just have a hard time spending that much.

Cool thank you, I would have a hard time spending that much as well. They are also fully manual and don't tilt. The 996 GT3s I've seen didn't have these seats, they had the same seats offered in a regular 911.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the interior of my car was custom made (color wise as well) so it's not really an option.

A factory seat that directly bolts into the factory mounting points is a better solution. PCNA tested passes all federal regulations. If you ever get hit hard and an aftermarket seat fails, your going to play hell getting paid by your insurance or the person that hit you. While GT3 seat are not comfortable on a long drive, the rest of the time they work fine

Well, Recaro's don't fail. They have either FIA or ABE approval, so they're built to withstand or overdo OEM seats... And Recaro is also a long-term supplier for Porsche.

FIA: The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile is the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organisations.
ABE: approval for complete vehicles (ABE = Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis = general certification from German Authorities. )

Recaro comes from Reutter Karosserienfabrik http://www.frankjung.com/index.html or http://www.recaro.com

I'm pretty sure Recaro actually makes some of these sport seats for Porsche.

My comment was not meant to criticize Recaro or any seat manufacturer. I am very aware that Recaro is an OEM seat supplier. However any OEM part (even if made by Recaro) or aftermarket seats by Recaro or other manufacturers can fail. The point of my comment is that the seats are part of the occupant restraint system certified by DOT and NHTSA through extensive and expense laboratory crash testing. It would be impossible for every aftermarket seat manufacturer to install their seats in every application and then run the entire vehicle with a crash test dummy into a fixed wall at 35mph. Only the factory can afford this type of destructive testing. (Even Porsche draws the line at the amount of destructive testing they are willing to underwrite. That’s why the RSR factory roll bar which is standard in Germany and approved by the ABE is not even an option in the US. PCNA has made an economic decision that it is not worth the cost to get it DOT certified.) FIA or ABE are valid sanctioning organizations, however have no legal standing for passenger vehicles in the US and certainly not something to place reliance on during insurance litigation involving bodily injury. By way of example, one might conclude a 5 point safety harness is better than an OEM 3 point seat belt. However you can be ticketed for using a 5 point system as it is not DOT approved. That's is also why you see many after market parts with a disclaimer "not for use on public roads".
