Well........ for now !

Been around for some time, reading a lot of posts, doing my homework in order to choose the best setup for my car.

Looking for : HIGHWAY, DRAG, MOUNTAIN ROADS, TRACK in this order
city driving not important

Finally I would convert this car to a GT2 like setup as much as possible, installing factory quality like or above components.

Base car is a 03 manual tt x50 with some mods now :

not needed after final setup : ecu tune, 5 bar FPR
going to keep : stage 3 CM clutch, reinforced DVs, cat less exhaust

Basically I am thinking of BIG BOY setup based on A3076, choosing 76s over custom turbos because of forward compatibility with 997s and I think they are a bit safer as boost is going to be built later and this going to be better for rods.

ENGINE
Turbos - Alpha Tial 3076
ICs - 4.5"
Y pipe
blow thru MAF
intake
Fuel Kit with second pump and injectors
Headers
Greedy EBC
New Plugs/Coils
Tune - for race gas not E85 ( no E85 in the area yet )
stock engine

Questions :
1. I am thinking about meth also, not as a power adder but as a cooling and additional safety solution, what do you think ? Using it successfully on my 335i also
2. Was considering gt2rs ICs also, but dont think are enough even w/o meth
3. Should I consider 75 mm plenum and TB also ?

TRANNY
GT2 clutch conversion : is this going to be enough ? http://www.speedtechexhausts.com/page41.html

Should install LWFW also ?

I have bought also a FVD ssk, removed it immediately as was a pain in the *** to change gears, anybody has experience with this product as I might installed it wrong or should I consider another ssk kit ?

What about driveshafts ? As I have seen one regular driveshaft costs like 3-400 $ and the upgraded 3000$ for both, should I consider braking one - two driveshafts or going to do the upgrade from the very beginning ?

LSD will be installed too, probably quaife.

Need to buy anything for RWD conversion considering removing also the front diff ?

Should I buy also the 2nd gear pop up thing ? I had just once a problem that seemed like that ...

As just bought PS2 225front and 295rears, will try to keep for a while then move to 235 and 315, if going to find a good deal for gt2 wheels i will choose this route, aftermarket rims are not considered as I want to preserve stock like exterior for this car

SUSPENSION
Considering in first phase to use some H&R springs and after to upgrade to PSS10. Maybe some swaybars also

BRAKING
stock for now

WEIGHT REMOVAL
Weight removal program, goal is – 330 lbs for drag days, and a bit less for DD

In place already
1. Exhaust - ??? lbs
2. Clutch - ?? lbs

To be done
1. RWD conversion - estimated 71 lbs
2. Seats front – estimated 50 lbs ( using set of sparco seats just for drag ) / -70 lbs for drag days ( just 1 seat to be installed)
3. Rear seats removal – 22 lbs
4. Gt2 clutch conv - 47??? lbs
5. Tools, spare wheel aso – 39 lbs (race)
6. Wheels&tires – 18 DD /17 for drag
7. Floor mats (race)
8. Smaller battery (race)

weight adders
1. Turbos, driveshafts, Ics, aso – ???? lbs, TBD

Question : Airbag will still be functional using some basic sparco seats ? These is not going to be final, going on factory seats GT later

This should be 2012 setup to be build this winter, after that and if everything goes well i might go for :

- roll cage, full suspension setup, maybe bigger brakes
-engine build, I think A3076 still have some boost to show...
-gt2 exterior kit (I am going to keep car 100% stock on the exterior including rims)
-maybe re-gearing, as I would like a bit better 60ft times and more than 140 mph ET

I will expect from this car beside high fun factor, some nice numbers 60-130 and 1/4 mile, any guess ?

Please feel free to comment/ advise

One question. Why would you go for 800hp and all the supporting mods and cheap out on the brakes and suspension? You will never be able to enjoy 800hp mountain driving on a spring stock shock setup. And brake upgradeswill be needed at that power level. and it less than a quarter of all of your other engine mods. I would make it priority for that power level an not put it off.

I was going to say the same thing. Power is awesome, but power under control is way more fun.

I can understand that, but he said: "HIGHWAY, DRAG, MOUNTAIN ROADS, TRACK in this order city driving not important"
So I figured he should address the other areas for the highway and mountain roads part of his goals. 800HP with stock brakes would be sketchy. Doable I am sure, but not an area to hold off on IMHO.

1/4" mile I meant lol
The client currently has out tune and ecu but is after running 1/4 with a possible engine build... maybe his needs changed but from what he described he would need to get into some 30rs...

Thanks guys for the input, being on Holiday that's why answering so late.

As I said I will use this car for HIGHWAY, DRAG, MOUNTAIN ROADS, TRACK in this order

To be more specific things will be like :

Highway - like 4-5000 miles/year including trips and like 20-30 "pull"evenings
Drag - 4-5 sessions/year with 6-10 launches/event
Mountain roads - maybe 1000 miles/year
Tracking - no real track for now in my area, but planning to use a track in Greece and for sure will go to Nurburgring for a ride next year

I am trying not to spend money for nothing/small improvement here, but I understand that I have to add supporting mods equally not only the engine.

So, for suspension I should consider a PSS9/PSS10 I see almost everybody is loving this kit, anything else ? swaybars, aso ?

For brakes, what should I choose ? Please consider also a budget solution.
I replaced my brake pads and the rotors are in good shape, and still I dont consider stock brakes so good as they say at the release time of our 996s : The car with the best brakes ever ......

Decided already final setup for engine, deal done.
No TB/Plenum upgrade, stock headers to be ported, so I left some cash in my pocket.

I am already considering PSS10 and nothing more regarding suspension. Hope for mountain roads to be enough. Maybe LSD later as I will try RWD to see how it feels, but I feel already that RWD is my way. Or GT2 way sometime

For brakes, I don't know a budget, what should I expect ? And what should I buy ?

Staying also on stock axles for now.

800 HP, MOUNTAIN ROADS, rear wheel conversion, stiff suspension, no LSD.

Interesting.....

May I respectfully suggest a large investment in driving instruction. No offense meant, you are probably fantastically talented as a driver. If not, please drive aggressively uphill and meekly downhill.

If you want some semblance of a road course car you will want a bit smaller turbos, 28's. Of course an exceptionally talented driver might handle GT30s, and I know Nuremberg is a big track but I know my car is not really a good road course car anymore, the turbos hit too hard coming out of tight corners.. Yes, I can tackle the giant highway sweepers we have her in Texa...um I mean Mexico at 140, but not tighter turns.
