Blown Turbo oh dear

Thanks for the clarification Tony and for correcting me on the fact that I did not read the previous post properly. It is sometimes difficult for me to follow the discussion but in fact I've found the answer I was looking for in the previous post. It is sometimes difficult to draw a line between the facts and the fictions, "who's right who's wrong" ... Sorry....

I had two turbos in a row blow in an older saab 9000 before I realized the damn boost control valve was bad. Well, the original one then a new one I installed. The second one blew within 5 miles or so of install. Yea, the boost needle pegging into the red wasn't good. The small stock turbo they put on those cars didn't like high boost. I was lucky that neither the compressor or turbine blades exploded.. just oil was sent everywhere.
Good luck!

The shop is now paying for it on their insurance for which they are 90% covered, its taken 3 weeks to get to this point though for all to agree on the new motor & probably another 3 before I get the car back

Nothing went wrong with the motor mount swap but as its a 3 inch Ypipe you have to remove the Y pipe to access

Sorry I wasn't as clear as I should have been. I have a set of those mounts on order so to hear your going back to OEM is concerning. Was it something particular about the mounts. Or your specific car that made you switch back?

Il do what I think is hell of a deal. New GT3 case, used Stock crank, used stock pistons, used L&R cylinders with sleeves, and used L&R heads for $9000 shipped. All ul need is some good rods. Replace stock crAnk and piston with GT3R crank and arrow rods for $12000 shipped. Then all ul need is pistons. I can have it all out by end of week. Can do new GT3RSR case vs GT3 add $2750

Wow - I just saw this. I am really glad your shop is stepping up and paying for this, truly a rare case. You should definetly take this money and opportunity and build a KILLER motor with that budget.

don't worry, I will, just got a tuned Golf for the next 3 weeks as my daily driver from Sportec as I am working over the festive period and the snow is coming, so the Ferraris have to stay in the garage

+1 couldn"t agree more - I watch my boost gauge more than my speedo - hell I already know I'm speeding

Wow, very interesting thread. Glad to hear everything worked out OP. Definitely learned exactly how a Turbo worked. Thanks!
