Price Check Please: 2003 X50 Artic Silver PCCB

Hi All - First off, thank you all of you for posting such informative replies to all of the threads on the board. I have learned a great deal from lurking around the boards over the past few months and finally decided to register as a user now that I am ready (able to afford) to purchase a 996 TT. I guess I actually have a few questions:

What is a fair price on a 2003 X50 in Artic Silver with 10.4K miles & PCCB?

The interior is “charcoal” leather…is this synonymous with a black leather interior? I was told it was not the light gray leather I would prefer not to have…

If one of these cars has been in storage for approximately 5 years, what problems, besides old tires, would concern you most? What steps should I take to resurrect a car that has been in storage that long?

Thank you all in advance; I look forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome to 6speed!

For a '03 X50 with PCCB's and low miles, I'm thinking upper $40's if there are no issues on PPI, probably more if it looks like it came out of a time capsule.

Storage for 5 years? Seals and hoses will tend to dry out. The gasoline may need to be siphoned out and replaced unless stabilizer was used. Brake fluid absorbs water, so a brake fluid flush should be done.

Much depends on how the car was put into storage for those 5 years. Good luck with your search and purchase!

"Charcoal" leather sounds as though it could be either standard black or the optional higher cost "natural grey" which is a shade lighter than black. If you could post the option code list, we could figure it out.

Upper 40s-low 50s and that's considering no paint work or prior accidents and it has a clean PPi.

Sounds like a nice car with the right options.

I would say low to mid $50 would be the range.

Good luck!

Sounds like a great find. Given the milage and the other options (sport seats, Nav, Aerokit) you might be looking at low to mid $50s. This car new might have listed for close to $150K. Assume the tires are shot (flat spotted/timed out or both). A PPI is a must. I'd have it flat bedded to the PPI mechanic and let him figure out how he wants to cold start it after 5 years of storage. Not running for 5 years you might have an leaking RMS which is common on cars that sit for too long. The rings may also need to reset themselves so expect some smoke. A compression test might not be a bad idea.

mid 50's easy with 10k miles, x50 and pccb. It seems prices have bottomed out on the 996tt platform.

Sorry I missed the part about the sport seats, Nav and Aerokit. Those are definitely worth a few thousand more (and the Aerokit saves from having to worry about the rear spoiler hydraulic leak!). My major concern, even with a clean PPI, is what sort of issues might be uncovered with routine driving after 5 years of storage? Hopefully nothing at all, aside from the need for routine maintenance. Sounds like a great find.

I'd say you'd be lucky to get it for mid 50s. The car has too many desirable options and low millage. Assuming that it was properly maintained e.g. oil has been changed at least semi annually, I'd say it is worth upper 50s to lower 60s.

Mid $50k range I'd say. That sounds like a superb car with all the best options. I hope it checks out and that you're able to take it home.

Thank you all for the replies. I am still waiting for a scan of the window sticker so that I can verify all of the options on the car.

Is there anythiny else besides the oil and brake fluid that should be changed before I drive the car? I was thinking maybe the trans fluid, fuel filter, etc. Also is there anything I should do to help prelube the motor before we crank it over to start it for the first time? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

Tranny fluid is a good idea as is the fuel filter in case any gunk has settled in it.

If an engine has been sitting for along time, once in awhile rings may take a set against the cylinder wall. Pull all the plugs and spray some penetrating oil into each cylinder. I've done this on V motors but never on an opposed motor. With a flat six you'll have to get one of those cans with the long nozzle extension to get to the upperside of the cylinder wall and piston. Just be careful the extension doesn't come off inside the motor. Let it sit overnight. Spray it again in the morning turn the motor by hand to make sure everything moves smoothly before replacing the plugs and cranking it over.

I hope this car works out for you as it is a great find.
