JRZ RS coilover spring length?

Hey guys,

I had a set of JRZ RS coilover on my 996TT and I find the spring is a bit too soft right now (400/500 with tender springs)

I am looking to upgrade the spring rate to a higher rate (500/700) or (600/800)

I wish to run them without helper springs or tender springs this time.

But I am a little bit confuse on what length I should get for the springs
(planning to run hypercoil)

Please help, thank you very much !

Jack the car up to fully extended suspension, with the springplates adjusted to the lowest ride height setting you will use, then measure the length between the upper and lower spring plates. That's how long your springs need to be when extended to not dangle around + add 5mm for springs sagging (they always do) and 5mm for margin and so they stay tight.

Using helper is usually good idea though unless you plan to run on a ballroom floor.

Thank you very much

I ended up with 7" on the front and 8" on the back with 550/700

will report back how the ride is when my setup is done.

Hopefully I can help any members with similar question in the future.

I do not like the tender/helper either.. I feel they give you wheel hop.

The thing that bothers me with no helper is less dynamic, more "car bounce" on ripples/racetrack kerbs, hit a small bump and the car launches until it lands. You feel it very strongly when braking bc the ABS freaks out. It works when the racetrack is F1 class, super smooth.

Also to OP I hope it's clear that the amount the spring compresses will decide your ride height. Sure you could move your plate down but with one long spring that must sit tight at full extension, when you let the car down on the springs, the compressed length is what you will get for ride height. If you run lower springplate at lowest setting, that's it. If you run spring plate lower than you measured at, you will have a dangling spring if you get full suspension extension (which in some way is pretty incommon but can happen).

But either way good luck and I hope it will fit your use case!

I ended up using tender spring in my setup to prevent the spring dangling problem, as long as adding some extra soft rate on daily drive-ability
