I'm having a EVOMS Stage 1 clutch and GT2 Master/Slave put in my 996TT as we speak. The technician will be able to visually see if the flywheel needs replacing, correct? I've never personally seen a damaged flywheel, but it was my understanding that a good tech will be able to tell while the trans is out. My car has 22k mi and I was only able to get it to slip in 4th gear under full boost. I have no reason to think it was abused previously..
experienced tech should be able to tell you if your old flywheel is good
If you go this route, I would have the tech back up his inspection decision with an "If I'm wrong and the clutch chatters or engages irregularly, I will replace the flywheel at no charge for the labor portion" because if he's wrong, it's going to cost you $800 or more to go back and make it right, unless you have an understanding beforehand.

I will talk with him. I really appreciate the input.

I guess a tech is the only one that can tell how true, straight and flat it is...I know from my Porsche tech people at the dealers and my PCA members that changed out their clutch, that the flywheels are pretty much good on normal driven cars(not alot of holeshots) and cars that are shifted properly.......Just sharing info....

Much aprreciated input. I have a sneaking suspicion that the premature clutch wear was the previous owner's wife's doing... slipping the clutch all the way through 2nd gear in the interest of "smooth driving"...

Of course I could be completely wrong and the previous owner was practicing his 60' times before I bought it. Either way, 22k seemes a little early to be needing a clutch, regardless of mods...
