Garage door opener integration

Garage door opener integration
Had a little time to mess around today and decided i would use the factory seat memory buttons for the garage door opener (and more in the future), Im going with aftermarket seats so I don't use these buttons...I've seen people use other buttons like window switches but I figured I'd use the seat buttons instead.
Here is a few pics, If anyone is interested in a more detailed DIY PM me for info but it's pretty straight forward. Just thought I'd share!
Works great I used the "M" button

rear window buttons
It's been said before, but for those considering this option and not driving convertibles, there are rear window blanks and you can actually order a button with the garage door icon on it from Suncoast or others and put it in that blank, with some simply wiring to you existing garage door remote. I did this and it's very simple to get into the console by removing the ash tray. 30 minute job.

Nice! I just put my rear window wiper button to good use doing this! One of my first mods was getting rid of the hideous wiper!

1: open up your garage door opener and take out the PCB (printed circuit board) part. Find out which two connections need to be closed to trigger the door opener part (look at the small switch the button on the case pushes and trace them to the rear of the PCB. Take a paperclip and bend it to touch both connections and the garage door should activate if you are in range. If that happens, then you have the two connection points. if not, then trace again and test again with paperclip. I offer no guarantee touching the wrong connections will not fry your opener... So kinda have a clue - that counts out Todd - LMAO! just kidding, kinda...
2: get some small gauge wire and cut a couple of 6-10" pieces. Then strip both ends and solder one end of each to one of the connections on the PCB that you just located. No need to kill it, just get it on there.
3: wrap the PCB with something like a sandwich bag and tape it up with the wires poking through. This will keep it from shorting out on anything in the dash. Touching the wires together should still activate the garage opener.
4: take off the center console upper horseshoe - it just pries off - be careful not to bend it and break it. I usually have to disconnect my cig lighter because the wires are too short. So visually memorize it's orientation as it will only go in the same way.
5: find the window wiper switch - be sure your rear window wiper is disconnected or it will activate when you open the garage... Pull off the connector on the switch. Put one wire in one connection and one in the other from the garage opener. The wiper switch is just a momentary single pole switch. No rocket science. Put on connector trapping the opener wires in the connector. Make sure they are not shorted with each other, etc.
6: push wiper button and test garage door should activate. Once tested successfully, tuck the opener PCB and wires into the dash. Then put the console back on - don't forget any wires you disconnected
7: test again
8: enjoy your hard work. My range was not that great, but it worked pretty good!

i added the targa sun shade switch (kind of looks like a garage) to one of the blanks behind the window switches, worked out nicely, the DIY is on 6speed somewhere, i did it a couple of years ago, looks factory
