You can build a Civic to be faster than a CGT... it's about watching fun and entertaining matchups... not bragging rights.
I'm a car lover through and through... and in the end, it all comes down to cool people with cool attitudes. And for me, watching races comes down to entertainment value, not who is or is not worthy... or bragging rights.. etc.

that said, wasting part of the $25k clutch to drag race when an unmodified CGT 0-60, 0-100, 0-125, and 1/4 mile times are common knowledge (tested many times), doesn't seem a useful thing to do. as well, i've said many times, there are many cars that can take (or embarass) the CGT in a straight line, but that's not what it was built for or where is shines.

Stock versus stock the CGT shines in the whole spectrum. Start to add mods and the scales can tilt. Problem with the CGT is very few people can afford to buy them. Fewer can afford to mod them and still fewer can afford to expend or replace the parts when they wear out, break or crash.
That doesn't mean it isn't a super car and one heck of alot of fun to drive. Sounds like people are trying to make a comparison for all the wrong reasons.

The comparisons never bothered me- motorheads are motorheads. Someone who buys a $400K car didn't lose the cerebral matter to be aware of other performance cars and their modification potentials. Probably, the owner of a $400K sports car DOES own other performance cars.
This is all for fun, right? My Z06 will be parked next to my Turbo S.

If I could afford a CGT, I'd have one. lol
Ben and I will have a go at it one day, of course after his warranty is expired. By then my car will be a lot different though, and it probably wouldn't even be a fun race.

I have a WS6 that could take the CGT in the 1/4. Whats the difference? It will never be a Porsche Carrera GT. I just dont see the point in instigating the race.
I'm not hating on anything, I just have ultimate respect for the CGT.

It's also conceivable that someone might take offense to such a comparison, even if it's just on one level - the CGT has an elegance and excitement that few cars can offer, and it's probably as close to an F1 experience on the street as you can get. A lot of American "sports" cars are just brute force power, with little thought to other aspects that make driving fun.
Personally, I think American cars are going in an interesting direction finally - you'll probably just have to learn to slough off negative comments in the meantime until the stigma goes away, if it ever does. I also personally find the idea of focusing solely on straight-line performance to be really boring.
