Some of us will do this repair. I would like to be able to order all the parts needed before starting the job. You know how it is to wait for 2 to 3 weeks to get parts you didn't know it was necessary....Please if you see something missing let me know and I will add it to the list. Thanks for your help.... Also if there are any parts needed for the engine removal/installation, please let me know....
There is a total of 8 pipes to weld (6 straight and 2 curved). See Mad Ness post #20: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...p-motor-2.html Thanks Mad Ness and smdubovsky for the info and pictures....

yeah good job JP, i would also order the coolant hoses, the big one, i have seen one fail on the track on a GT3, same as the turbo i beleive, it litteraly split in half in the length side, not accross it, pretty weird.
Good time to change the fuel filter and the coolant tank if not already done. I have my tank ready to go in when i do my engine with the welded fittings next winter. Tank is already in stock and fittings are in the mail.

Anyone know what happened to the DIY coolant pinning thread (not the sharkwerks one)? I can't find it anywhere.
N/M I forgot it was on rennlist.
Here is a link though to anyone interested.

I sent that thread, along with sharkwerks thread to my mechanic to study. He's really good at that type of stuff. I'd rather the pin option honestly as not one case of pinned fittings has reported leaking, yet at least a few cases of welded ones have reported it. Plus I don't want to pull the engine out just for that.

IMO, this failure is just a matter of time on all 996TT's. There may be a few out there that for some reason never fail, but I think the majority will fail over time and use. I had one of the earlier failures, as I drive my car a lot and it failed at roughly 7 years, 80,000 miles a few years ago. We replaced it with a brand new, off the shelf Porsche OEM part. The new OEM part lasted 6 months and failed on the opposite side of the first failure. At that point, I mentioned that I felt this was going to become a common occurrence as these cars age...I think we are seeing it now and I don't think it's going to stop.

The threaded option is probably "enough"..thoughts?
And, I put a thread up on rennlist in the de section/racing section....3500+ views and a lot of vitriol.
Hoping NHTSA makes this a recall. There is a list of events in the 997gt2/gt3 section on rennlist....
