Oil sender unit
Can somone tell me the location of the oil sender unit? It's playing up again. Dial stuck on 5 bars and displaying erratic behaviour. As my gearbox was out I am wondering if its location is by the gearbox anywhere in case something got disturbed (lose contact). If it is located in the engine bay this means it lasted only two years again.

It is right behind the oil filter.
On page 28 it is number 45:

Yes I am sure now. However I replaced mine 2 years ago. So short life span???

On second thought, I am not sure. So where is the sensor? Are symptoms the same? Last time this erratic dial was atributed to the oil sending unit. Once replaced all was ok for 2 years. So how to diagnose which is bad unit or sensor? Where is the sensor located? I find it weird it's gone exactly as i had my gearbox out and main shaft bearing replaced.

Look at the two wires and check if they are properly installed....Location is just behind the oil filter...

Very common. Clean the contacts and pinch them on well. especially if they act up after some service or if you have moved things around. They do go bad once in a while but there's a high chance you have a contact issue.
Good luck

I actually just replaced mine about 5 days ago. I was getting erratic behavior as well and even experienced a failure code that said "Failure indicator" and showed the oil symbol. The part was roughly 80 bucks removed intake box and inlet, had motor stand/lift and removed 2 bolts from the motor mounts and dropped the motor about 4 inches or so and could reach right in and change it. Do not know if this helps or not.

Yeah, what was the outcome with the sending unit? It's a shame when someone has a problem, but we never hear how it was fixed.

I guess we will never know if it's the contacts or the unit because Porsche will
of course replace the unit!

I bought a proper high quality electric contact cleaner with a long straw. I sprayed again all over the contacts when the car was hot and then left it for the night.
Today I drove 300 miles. No fault. Also dial is at 4.5 maximum now as before when playing up it got to 5 max on the dial and then dropped to zero which indicated fault.
So all good thus far.
Fingers x-ed. Will keep reporting.
