as compared to the regular 997 shifter, which I hear is a bit shorter than stock anyway. Also what company does everyone get the shifters from, Suncoast? Straiten me out if I'm confused, I'f not point me to the best shifter

The regular 997 is better than the 996 and you will notice it. The 997 Factory short shifter with the Blue housing is awesome. Shorter and not notchy. Suncoast IS the best deal. They are like "Crazy Eddie" over there with the deals!

The 997SS is only notchy from neutral to first until the tranny fluid warms up. Otherwise it's great.

I replaced a FVD short shift with the 997 ssk. Much smoother.

Thanks for the replies guys seems like its really the only short shifter to get, no decision necessary. Duane, your sayin the N-1st norchiness goes away once the car is heated up? Ek9max what color is your car, that's not factory silver is it? Hot.

Personally i will go for the standard 997 shifter since it is already a considerable improvement over 996 standard and it cost as half as a 997ssk

Can anyone confirm this is the right part? http://www.suncoastparts.com/product..._Code=997TTTRa

Mikegr I don't mind spending a couple hundred more dollars if its worth it. I just want the best daily driving expereince possible. Does the Ss get tedious for daily driving or does it make it more pleasurable?

Thanka sir, also what does 6SO feel about buying it used (since Samya was kind enoughtl to direct me to his for sale in the classifieds). Is this a part not worth saving the money on a used one?

That's ok but since i ve been doing this research for quite sometime too,
i conlcuded at the following:
-A respactable number of owners, ended up switching to standard 997 s. cause found ssk too stiff especially when cold
-No body complained about the standard 997 shifter
-Porsche OEM products seems to be the no1 choice. Then comes B & M.

I know mine is not stiff when it's cold,as the several members in our club don't have that problem.
Maybe the those drivers are stiff in the morning..LOL

With the 997SSK my car was very stiff and notchy to shift when cold. Maybe it's the type of gear oil, I don't know but it was never that way with the stock shifter. Now I'm going with the 997 GT3 shifter with metal bushings and give that a try. The throws are longer than the SSK but still considerably less than stock. Never really had a complaint with the SSK just wanted to try something different.
