Fair price for this 996tt with X50??

Hi there,

New here looking at a black on black 2004 996tt with x50 but no sport seats. Has around 61k miles. Very well maintained inside and out. Not a single dent or scratch on the body. Kept good maintenance records. Car drives well with no issues in 2nd gear. Whats a fair price to pay for the car? Thanks for the help!

Having recently shopped around for a 996T I think the X50 only adds about 5K to the value of the car. Dealers and private sellers like to tout the extra $17-$20K it costs new but it just doesn't bring much premium anymore. You can have more power than the X50 with a simple tune on a base turbo and spend less than the 5K premium. Even better, your stock 996 turbos probably have much less turbo lag than those found on the X50; at least that's what I've found on test drives and reading the forums.

agreed, all the expensive options in the world (x50/carbon/leather/paint) can only add about 10% to the value. I think that is pretty much offset by the higher miles of this car, mid 40's tops

Im sorry...dont want to start a new thread but what does the X50 option add exactly. I know its more power...how is this extra power made? Does the X50 option make making more modded power easier? If im going to do a tune and say...exhaust anyway does the x50 do any better? Thanks in advance Gents.

Hit the search button, there is lots of information on this. One thing you should keep in mind (X50 Option was 17K dollars). If you want to mod your car... the X50 is a complete waste as you would want to replace your turbo's, get a different ECU tune etc etc.

Having just picked up an 02' Turbo with some nice aftermarket wheels and an ECU tune, I'd say no more than 44K for a stock X50, but i'd be surprised to see a dealer price the car less than $50K.

Beg to differ; If you're just looking at a flash and exhaust the stock X50 turbos (K24) will give you more ultimate boost (albeit with more lag at the low end; who lives there ?). This is the way many of us have been running for a long time, the K16's run out of breath the k24's are pulling hard.

I see another e46/m3forum face here. Long story short.........X50 has k24 turbos and a non x-50 or powerpackage (or non s in the later years) has k16 turbos, power in stock form is a minimal increase but do not let an x50 be the end all for the decisions, as others said an 1k tune from EPL can make your k16 way quicker than a stock k24 equipped car.

Coming from a k16 car I would say its worth the x50 as you get the k24's and larger intercoolers. Uncork the exhaust and get a flash the k24's won't be laggy. Plus you'll have the cores to go to 18g or 20g setup. Better starting point if your planning to mod in the future. I went with the k24/18g and I think the lag difference is minimal between the flashed k16''s I had. Getting the extra power up top is worth it IMHO.

. Yeah.. but this is not MODDING... That is personalization... Modding is larger turbos, special suspension, Motons etc etc
