I think I found the one
After looking around for a while I am pulling the trigger on a 2002 / seal gray/black interior/ 6 speed with 27k miles, 2 owner , 1 long term, almost all service records checked out. asking price was 47k, negotiated to 44 k. recent major service performed (sparkplugs etc) and 4 new mich ps2 tires, its from a porsche dealer. what do you guys think, its minimally optioned, I think its a good price? cant tell as the prices are all over

Average price for a really good looking car. Get a good PPI done and request the DME printout , look for over-revs. The car looks great and it has all the options you want, really. All the other options (except the X50 turbo upgrade and the aerokit) do not add any additional value anyway. The car seems to be totally stock. That is a good thing. That commands a premium believe it or not!! Welcome!!

looks good, and the price for a one/two owner well maintained car seems about right. the new tires alone are $1500 give or take. it's maybe a grand or two over market but only because a dealer is involved.
i bought an 02 in 09 for 47k but it had a cpo from a dealership and well worth the ( 3k extra ) premium. if it's the "one", ya better grab it, as it won't last if it "is". good luck with it.

Is that generally speaking, people tend to overstate the significance of type 2 overrevs. Given that they can happen by simply bouncing off the rev limiter, I wouldn't let that dissuade me from buying it because of them. ( since you said " a few"! )
Type 2's happen. If they don't the car's not being driven anywhere near it's limits. Which I suppose as a buyer, one would hope was the case. I wouldn't ( and don't ) worry about em. Unless the cars tracked a lot, people blast these cars until they run out of room or *****, and most happen quickly before *many* are caused.

If it's been previously tuned, of course, all bets are off - many (most?) tuners raise the factory rev limiter, so Type 1 and 2's might occur in regular high rpm usage.

i've read that also; ( about type two's being a direct result of a misshift, but also told that type two's can happen in the way i mentioned upthread ) my real point without arguing, as to how specifically they can occur, is simply that finding a few of them on the dme readout, isn't as alarming or as great a cause for concern as many ( in fact, here particularly ) would have us believe. i'm by no means expert, but i have had cars with type two overrevs, and i hope some were mine...
and yes, my tune has generated a lot more of them than would have occurred with a stock tune. excellent point.

Looks nice and, of course, love the color! Looks like the car is in Utah -- Would you have it shipped out to you or are you going to go pick it up? I assume you'll be able to test drive either way.

with my math, it could be in the high range for .5 to .6 sec depending on the rpm it was in. now if i saw in the thousand range i would be concerned, also this ocured ~126 hours ago which comes out to ~ 5500 miles ago.

Car looks great. Might consider the PPI done by an unbiased third party just to be protected. My car was bought from a dealer, and my third party inspection told me things (minor) that the dealer didn't. Good luck; love the color.
