Picking up my new (to me) GT2 in a few days...have some questions...
I tried this in the Tech Section and got no response. Thought Id try here.
Well I sold my Z06 and have moved up to a 996 GT2. I am excited to say the least. The car has almost 9000 miles and I know I will feel better about driving her after I do all the needed fluid changes and what not.
Problem is there is not a whole lot of maintenance related info specific to the GT2...there seems to be plenty for the 996 TT..problem is I dont know what info can be applied to the GT2 as well as the TT.
I have been on the fourm for hours it seems and have learned a ton of info. However there are still a few questions I wouldnt mind having straight answers to.
1- Are there any good GT2 specific DIY's for oil change, diff fluid change, and transmission fluid change?
2- Is there a good place to find all the recommended GT2 fluids for these services?
A- What type of fluids are recommended for the trans, diff, and motor oil? What are the recommended capacities for these fluids?
3- Is there a specific DIY for coolant exchange?
A- What type of coolant is used and how much? (Texas heat can be a real drag if you are not prepared!)
The reason I ask these questions is because I really enjoyed doing all the maint on my C6 Z06 and always felt that things were done RIGHT after I finished. It saved time and money as well.
Thank you all fro any and all help!
I plan on using all Amsoil fluids as I did w my Z. If this is any help.

ths short answer would be to pick up any manual for the 01-05 tt's if your gt2 doesn't come with one. the owner's manual will obviously indicate how much of what to fill, with what, and when. for all intents and purposes your gt2 will have the same maintenance requirements ( recommendations ) as for the 996tt as they ( 996tt - gt2 ) are more alike, than not. as you know. congrats on the pickup!

Get the repair manual from Mikelly here: http://www.renntrack.com/forums/show...t-manual/page3. You will found some good reading and many answers to your questions....
Use the search button you will found a lot of DIY also on Rentech.org....

I read all the "info" that Rentech had to offer. Slim pickings over there. The oil change DIY seemed to be pretty spot on. No info on the diff or trans tho. I am having a hell of a time downloading the renntrack stuff. Looks like what I need though. Any other help would be great!
Also when I get all this info in my hands i will absolutely make a good maint DIY thread for others to ponder. Thanks again all who spoke up.

I own both cars. a 2002 X50 TT and GT2. They are very similar (same engine, same tranny minus tranny cooler and LSD in the TT). so any TT maintenance info should apply. The cars have a LOT of minor differences which makes the GT2 definitely special but the main mechanicals are near identical.
Change the tranny, engine fluid and do plugs and an air filter. maybe bleed the brakes and check fluid levels. Then drive it! These cars are near bulletproof!
BTW a great alignment is a MUST on the GT2. It makes all the difference in the world!

3Deep, Yea it is. I posted over on Corvette forum about buying a Z06/Grandsport or a GT2/3 several months back and ALL the guys I know there and respect there from instructing and tracking together said they would take the GT2/3 over the Vette. I used to own one. It was a nice car. It's no Porsche.
Everyone here has pretty much covered the basics... But I'll throw this out... My GT3 and my former 996TT are very close to your GT2 and I do all my own work, so take it for what it is...
What I use:
Motor oil - M1 5W40 TDT 10 quarts (you'll use about 9.5) plus Meihl Filter. I buy my filters in bulk through RockAuto. *Caveat: This is NOT a debate about brands or why... Again it is what I use.
Transaxle Fluid - I use Delvac Transaxle fluid in 75W90.
Brake Fluid - I prefer to bleed my brakes with my Motiv bleeder once per year off track, and if it is tracked, I bleed it before every event. I use Motul RBF600
You have Pentosin CHF 202 in the power steering reservoir at the rear, and OEM coolant in the radiators.
These cars are great, and with a proper alignment and cornerbalance they are magical. Enjoy it and by all means put some miles on it. The worst thing you can do is let it sit.

Changing all the fluids on a ten year old car is probably a good idea.

All very good info! Thanks all.
Soo the "transaxle" is the transmission AND the diff...and they use the exact same fluid?
You said get coolant and Pentosin is the DKW dealer...what is the DKW?
Thanks again all.

re: coolant. you can also buy the vw/audi oem coolant instead of the porsche branded oem at $42.00 (wtf!?) a gal. the vw ( pink ) stuff ( GO12A ANTI GEL ) is the same and half the price and is "pentofrost" in an OEM branded container. make certain it's the "OAT" coolant that is ok to mix and it needs a 50/50 mix distilled water/coolant.. get yourself a can of pentosin 202 to keep around for the ps reservoir and i use redline 90w for gear oil.
