P0327 - Porsche Fault Code 210 - Knock Sensor 1
Just got the following fault code pop up
P0327 - Porsche Fault Code 210 - Knock Sensor 1
Do I need to log anything with the Durametric, or should I just go straight to replacing the knock sensor?
(Car won't hold above 0.4bar at present)

Has the car been sitting around? If so, you might have rodent damage in that area where the knock sensor is. I was told that knock sensors rarely go bad. Several people have been able to make the repair with the engine in the car. I decided to have my mechanic remove the engine and repair the wires (rodent damage) while he replaced my clutch.
Before you go thru all this, clear your codes and see if it comes back up. If the wire is severed, you should be in limp mode again once you boost.

Yep. I've reset the codes and been out for a drive
Car goes into limp mode after hitting boost
Same code again, so I'm guessing it's time to start the tear down
My car lives outside, and I had a rodent problem last year
Sounds like they might be back
If that's the case Im guessing I need to fix the wiring rather than buying a new sensor?
Is the wiring available seperately?
Can I only get the wiring with the sensor?
Does the wiring need replacing, or is it a matter of just fixing/repairing what's already there?
As you can tell - I don't know much about this job yet

My connectors were chewed all the way to the plug, so nothing to solder to or repair. Luckily, my mechanic had a leftover wire harness from another car that had rodent damage, so he cut off the plug and replaced mine. I don't think you can just buy the plug. However, I think someone posted they were able to repair or purchase a plug that fits from Volkswagen.
If you had this problem last year, do you think the repair came loose? or maybe the plug wasn't pushed in all the way?

So, am I right in saying I (most probably) only need the wiring, as that's more likely to be at fault rather than the actual sensor itself - But I'd have to buy both parts anyhow, as they can't be purchased separately?
The problem I had last year was a rat eating my brake pad sensors - I've not had this issue with the Knock sensor before, this is a new one for me

I've found the sensor, but not the wiring yet
Can the wiring be purchased, or must the original wiring be worked on?

Yes, you most likely only need to get the wiring repaired, but I don't think you can just get a new plug. You need to pull apart your engine and take a look at how much damage was done. If the wires are just severed, you just solder back together and be on your way. If your wires were chewed up with no leftover wires, you will need to get creative. I'll try to attach a pic later of how mine looked like. There's not a lot of room to work either.

I have some pictures posted here: http://www.mainstreamracing.com/gall...10_05_13_16_22
As you can see, the rodent ate the wires to the point that there's nothing to solder back to.

Thanks mate! very useful
My knowledge of electrics is embarrassingly poor
What did you have to do to sort yours out?
Could you just connect the exposed ends of your wiring back into the connectors in the plug, or did you have to add some new wire to the plug and solder this to the old wiring?
If mine's just cut/frayed further up the wiring, do I just solder and tape it up?
Told you I don't have any idea of electrics

I ended up having my mechanic repair it...so I am not sure how he reattached the wires. I just know he took wires/plug from a donor car to complete the repair since my plug was pretty much gone.
If you have enough wire showing, yes, you can just solder and tape it back up.
Good luck.

Ok, let's do this
Just about to get started
I'm guessing this thing's hidden behind the alternator?
Once ive got the alternator out is there anything else to remove, or can it be got to from there?

Took the F-pipe and Divertor Valves off, and I can now see the Knock Sensor
I can't get to it yet, but it looks like the wires have been chewed right down at the connection block
EDIT:
The wiring that's visible further along the loom is stripped
They are White & Black, and Blue & Green
Just trying to get the connector off now

To do this without removing the engine I'm going to have to remove the intake manifold (black plastic item going from the TB plenum to the cylinder head)
How big of a job is this and is there a write up anywhere that I can follow?
I think this is the problem?

Looks like others have gotten to them before
Guess I need to try a little harder
