Pennzoil Ultra / Shell Helix 5w40 ?
My neighbor is a Ferrari mechanic and they use Pennzoil Ultra 5w40 in some of the Ferrari engines. I'm thinking about buying it off him at a discount since it would work for both my GTI and 996TT.
For now, I put Mobil 1 0w40 in the 996 but wouldn't mind switching next time.
Does any have experience with this oil in their 996TT?

5w40 is approved by VW, Audi, Lambo. I would think its good for gti but not necessary for 996tt.
I stick to factory fill unless it is not readily available. The shell is pretty expensive so I am sure it is fine.

No, just probably fatigued from another oil question. Most popular will be m1 5w50, 5w40 turbo diesel truck, and 0w40. Beyond that everyone has their favorite and is convinced if you use anything else your engine will grenade. The oil you mention is on the Porsche oil list so should be ok though it doesn't appear to have published zddp data.

For Socal were it never gets cold (but it can get hot) I like the 5-50w. What you give up in cold start viscosity you gain alot more in hot temp flash point. Any fully major brand full synthetic should be fine.
