Chances are if you got an exhaust tone change in two days after just switching the ovals to the x50 style I bet you have an exhaust leak somewhere. I had both tips on a fabspeed gen3 twin can and noticed no tonal difference between tip changes.
This is not true with all tips on different systems as there can be a significant sound difference just from changing tips.

If the tips change the flow, they will change the sound. If the output is the same size, the tone should not change. My wife was complaining about the internal drone on my exhaust - I simply fabricated an insert for the tip to change the output diameter and totally eliminated the drone. If I go to the track, I just remove the insert - it takes less than 5 minutes.

I have experimented extensively with tip shape, size, length, etc. and found by varying these parameters, we can alter and tailor the sound of our systems. We tested over a dozen tip designs on our X-cellerator series exhaust system to finally arrive at the ones that gave us the best sound, least drone, etc. IMO, tip design can have a significant effect on sound, it takes a lot of time to get it right - every system is different.

Our Speedtech tips only fit our systems, however, I can supply you with the OEM twin circle style tips, if you would like a set of those...

How did you measure the output "sound" or "tone"...?

Wross,

We used a combination of:
  • live field testing under a variety of conditions - flats, hills, WOT, slow, etc.
  • video replays
  • multiple driver feedback from the drivers seat - windows up & down
  • workers evaluation - providing real time feedback from the sidelines
All of the feedback was evaluated and decisions were made as to what sounded best / least drone, etc. - then the top picks were again tested against the other designs on subsequent days to insure the proper choices were made. It is a very, very time consuming exercise. If you read our testimonials, it is obvious that in the end, our efforts and final choices have been very well received in the marketplace and this type of testing is beneficial both to SpeedTech as a business and the end user for long term enjoyment of their investment with us.

Another P has a spectacular aura aboutAnother P has a spectacular aura about
I ran my Fabspeed without any tips for a week, and when I got around to putting tips on, I was very surprised at how an extension changed tone, volume and drone. That said, like any trombone or some brass instruments, if you alter the length, or diameter, or any parameter, you adjust the sound. Physics.
I'm the weird one, but I hate the twin X50 tips, and put on the original singles. Im in the minority, but the fakey twin overlapping tips seem ridiculous to me. If only I had true twin tips, that would be another story!

You're not alone - I dislike them as well. Standard oval tips for me.
