Rebuilt transmission?

It looks like (well, actually it sounds like) there are some bearings going out in my transmission. I'd like to do a swap, where I buy a rebuilt trans, and then send mine back as a core.

Does anyone have any experience with rebuilt transmissions? Good or bad.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, had to have my tranny rebuilt because an end bolt was coming loose on one of the main shafts, and it was making a worn bearing noise. Cost me $4000 but that included new steel synchros in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears, couple of bearings, plus I had them do the detent upgrade as well. My tech tack welded the end nuts after torqueing to spec so they couldn't come off again. Trans is as good as new.

I don't know what a rebuild costs minus the core charge, but you might want to consider my upgrades for the track. Do you have a reputable transmission rebuilder in your area? I'll bet Matt Monson, the LSD guy, could point you in whatever direction you decide. He is in contact with transmission guys all over the country.

Done it myself to fix 2nd gear pop out --
I would follow Landjet's advice exactly. I did steel 2,3,4 though.

Yazz911TT is infamous around these parts
Guys on a similar note I have just started to have a 3rd gear issue in the past week. The car is an 03 996 tt with 51K on it, regularly maintained and gearbox oil changed to Mobil 1 delvac only 7K miles ago. car has 620hp K24/18G upgrade for last 4K miles. When the tranny is cold and driving normally, 3rd gear pops out when clutch is being released, as if the gear is not properly engaged or clutch was not fully depressed. Is this a syncro issue? This is not consistent, it doesn't do it all the time, will do it once or twice in the first 5-10mins of the drive. No more problems once transmission is warm. Fast changes are also fine.
