I'm going to need to set the cam timing on my 996 turbo and was wondering if anyone has the porsche 9661, 9661/1 plates and 9653, 9653/1 wrenches that I could rent or borrow.
Thanks

Thumbs up Good stuff

I really enjoy these type of threads Tim.

Maybe one day if my old man will lend me his ultimate set of TV repair tools I'll have a go tearing into my engine too.

Great instructions. Couple of questions regarding using the tool to time 996 Street GT3 motors:
1) Are the timing specs 122.5 degrees for Street? Does that mean it would be 237.5 for the exhaust and 122.5 for intake instead of 250/110 respectively?
2) How do you account for the VarioCam adjusters? I assume you have to make sure to squeeze all the oil out since they can move the cam 40 degrees advanced and you want to time in their most retarded (= unfilled) setting?
3) I know the adjusters will "flop" forwards as you cross max lift, so you have to be careful to hold the intake cam and always make sure you're at full retard on the adjuster. Any other thoughts on timing GT3 Steet cams with VarioCam? It's right that the adjusters fill with oil to advance the cam under load, not that they're filled with oil at start & idle and then let oil out to advance?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tim

Awesome info... Now we just need the DIY for the other parts of the engine and I'll be building mine.

I really would love to, but its a scary engine to break apart...
