How to time your cams.

Ok here is a review on Stompski racing's products and a quick how to

Missing is the cam tensioner but if you are doing this you should know how to do that

Bank one is done.. Keep turning the motor over to verify that you are set at the numbers you want the cams at by making sure you land on dwell at the degree you want it at. Now leave cylinder one at compression tdc. go to bank two, place cams with lobes pointed out. lightly tighten cam bolts.

bring the motor around till 250

VERY IMPORTANT: double check your numbers... Make sure that cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 are NOT on compression on the same stroke.

Steven Stomski makes great products and is very helpful.

Yes. cylinder 1 and 4 are at tdc at the same time just that it is 360 out in phase. Opposing cylinders 1&4, 2&5, 3&6 are just that opposing. they are at tdc at the same time and the motor fires every 120 degrees.

Great write up Tim, glad to see you finally getting the beast back together again. Did that timing chain tensioner I made work out for you? I know it doesn't have the tension reference marks on it like the factory tool, but as you stated one doing this work would know when the chain is properly tensioned anyway

I have to bring that back because I am curious. I was reading about cam timing and I am trying to locate cheaper tools for the job. Tim you've mention earlier the Stromski tool. I was reading these tool can do a more precise job than the factory tools, true or false? Also can you tell me if my list is completed for the tools needed to remove the cams example for lifters replacement

Stromski GT3 timing apparatus, Stromski Digidix, two wrenches for intake and exhaust (or 27mm wrench mention before), 2 timing chain tensioner, anything else can be useful? Thanks!

252 views lol.. put exhaust, wheels are what do you think about... This froum really went to the posers... JP I do not use the cam sprocket holding tool as it went missing,I just hold back on the cam with a wrench. Those are some pricy tools to DIY.. but then again look at me

JP I will mail you the factory plates to use if you want. Insurance and shipping on you though. If you take your time they are good to go. Its a pain to use the vario cam and the stompski setup. Its is way better if you plan on changing your cam timing (exhaust). The variance comes in with the crank at tdc. The tool for that is useless..

I feel a lot better with you around, in case of emergency.... May be you are going to see me in Long Island, were ever you are, with the engine in my trunk to be timed!!!!!
