Some stuff to think about when building these engines...

turbo and gt2 share the same crank, gt3 has a different rod journal size, and a few more differences

OK thanks, that's interesting. I'm looking to get another engine for my 996TT tarmac rally car that I can add stronger rods and head studs for a bit more HP and was thinking that the GT2 would be a better starting point, but it may not be that much of a difference. Can anyone tell me the main differences between the two motors.

Thanks for the video and IMO...Insanity!
I think an inexpensive way would be to tig weld that the gear to the shaft or develop some kind of safety wire setup if possible to keep those bolts from backing out. Or just go with the GT3 IMS and be done with it. Thanks for the heads up!!
Someone mentioned earlier that you can feel this symptom by revving the car to 2k rpms and listening to the motor? Or seeing if it has more vibration than normal??? How to check for this again? Can you check for this sound while the motor is off by moving the crank?

I would also love to know more about what to be listening for. It seems that every one of these H2O turbos I hear seem loud in this respect. Thankfully, I tend to use revs [still driving old 911s and a favorite 930 ]. Still this is scary.
THANK you for posting this and the other helpful information. I suspect it might be a combination of what has been discussed... and lousy luck!
