To Tip or not

Had this debate over and over and the cost comparison has always been my point. Tip build and a good clutch replacement are nearly the same cost. The 6spd guys bash the tip because it needs a $5k build after being blown but seem to neglect that 1 clutch replacement cost them $4k. There are "ZERO" reports I'm aware of with a tip
blowing a second time yet all these powerful 6 speeds will need another clutch at some point and plenty are having to have their box rebuilt or at least sunchros. Pros and cons to both but IMHO long term costs of a high power 6spd will be more.

Do you know of anyone who has had there Tip rebuilt and upgraded? I called switzer on this today and they say they can't do much to the 996 Tip due to it having a different TCU than the 997. I know on vivid racings website they say for 6K they can build it to handle 1000 HP? Anyone have this upgrade? There are some incredibly fast 997 Tips in the world right now. I don't need the tranny to handle 1000hp but 800 would even work for me. I have to use a Tip or DCT, PDK Etc due to my left leg being a little screwed up due to nerve damage. I have looked at buying a 997 TT but even a great deal on one I would still spend around 70k. Considered getting a GT-R but they are around 65k for a decent used one. I picked up my 996 with over 50k in mods for around 45k. There has to be something out there to remedy the 996 tip for much less than buying the nissan or 997! Anyone have any ideas?

Bad107 did his at IPT and it was pretty expensive. Valley996 or valley996tt something like that had his done in Dallas for under $6k. Renntech does it but don't recall price. Valley 996 was gonna do 18g or equivalent. Haven't heard any updates on tranny but it's been 6 months. Bad107's has held thru what I would call grueling punishment. I personally will use the place in Dallas when the time comes.

It was last tuned and dynoed at Evoms and it put out 555Hp and 606TQ at the crank. This is a very conservative 91 octane tune.

Agreed! But I am still reluctant to throw down that kind of cash for something that is unproven to me! I wish there were someone on here that had a modded 996 TT Tip that could run with all the bad *** 997 TT Tips out there. I read a post by Switzer about the 997 that said they could get in the 9's in the quarter with the Tip. It's kind of frustrating You would think someone could get this Figured out considering how much money is left on the table to mod a 996 VS buying the 997!

Are you only reading the uS posts and not the UK ones.
I thought I made it quite clear, I have been running a highly modded tip box with 900nm torque and a PBOX verified times to indicate 650 bhp
over here in the UK we have cars pushing 850/1000 bhp 6tt's and running modded Tip boxes.

Now, If you want a lightly modded car, say exhaust, tune, and 16g turbos, yes, the tip should be OK.
Now, this is the part where you argue with me. Next is you get a tip and realize what the many before you found out.

Craigs car never made close to 1k in power....and he also tried every solution for the tip.
You don't see him anymore because he does not want to be reminded of the expensive lesson he got.

I take that Bad 107 was able to get a built tip that handles lots of power....but what was the cost?
