To Tip or not

Let me ask you this. Forget dynos, what kind of stats do you want out of your tip.? I ran 2.7 0-60, 6.33 60-130, 10.5s in the quarter mile, and 197mph in the TEXAS MILE in my tip. I did all of this on 16/16gs. So you can see, a 996TT tip without 800hp can be quite fast. They are killer "roll on" cars against cars with even a bit more HP. I wanted to go faster, so I sold it for a 6MT. If there is a faster 996TT tip out there on a stock tranny, it's not here on 6Speed. Heck Sunnyside has a built tranny along with bigger turbos and he can't touch my tiptronic numbers.
Do you know of anyone who has had there Tip rebuilt and upgraded? I called switzer on this today and they say they can't do much to the 996 Tip due to it having a different TCU than the 997. I know on vivid racings website they say for 6K they can build it to handle 1000 HP? Anyone have this upgrade? There are some incredibly fast 997 Tips in the world right now. I don't need the tranny to handle 1000hp but 800 would even work for me. I have to use a Tip or DCT, PDK Etc due to my left leg being a little screwed up due to nerve damage. I have looked at buying a 997 TT but even a great deal on one I would still spend around 70k. Considered getting a GT-R but they are around 65k for a decent used one. I picked up my 996 with over 50k in mods for around 45k. There has to be something out there to remedy the 996 tip for much less than buying the nissan or 997! Anyone have any ideas?

Hi ,
Are you only reading the uS posts and not the UK ones.
I thought I made it quite clear, I have been running a highly modded tip box with 900nm torque and a PBOX verified times to indicate 650 bhp
over here in the UK we have cars pushing 850/1000 bhp 6tt's and running modded Tip boxes.
Frank.

The 997 is a different tranny and TCU. Didn't IPT build tips here in the States. Look them up. My opinion would be to get this done and go with 24/18g turbos. You can run mid 10's all day long with high 5 60-130's I bet.

I will definitely look into IPT! I think I would be very happy with a 24/18 running those stats! Thanks again for the help!

I blew it once. After a stock rebuild, I dialed the power back because with the stock tranny, it would start to slip at the 3rd to 4th gear shift. When I had mine, there was no solution for the 996 tranny. Maybe these new tranny builders are good. All I know is, the 3-4 clutch packs are small and weak so anything is better than stock.
What kind of power? The tip never dyno's well, so we never REALLY knew what it made on the dyno. But the stats live on. Forget dyno numbers. The PBOX is all you need to gauge the power of your car, especially with a tip because driver error is almost non-existent.

Sure man, I've been around the block with the tip for sure.

Yeah, I have read a lot of your post on your Tip! Learned a lot! I am going to buy a PBOX and see where my car stands now! I think you are right about not putting so much into dyno runs and just focus on real world numbers!
#41
Now you're thinkin"! Yea, go out and get some base numbers. Call Neil at Switzer, they have good deals on Pboxes. (no affiliation, just a referral)

Will Do!!

heres some outside the box thinking. the trans is a mercedes trans right? give southern hot rods or paramount performance a call. they build chrysler (uses the same trans as the mercedes) high performance trans with warrenty that are able to handle 1000 hp and streetable.

I know most options will be costly, but is there any way to adapt a pdk to a tip car? I am sure bolt patterns are probably different but it would be interesting to note. A P-car salesman told me the other day that there were some 997GT3's ordered with pdk, I said I didn't think so, but he was adamant. If so, then being the same engine it would work on these engines.

what was that?? 4 years ago. dint your tranny require a rebuild jitsu? how much that cost? PLUS $4000 clutch!!
