It was an interesting video and I agree with many of his points -- but to tell you the truth, his attitude got a little annoying after a while too (just like the attitude that he was complaining about).

I completely agree that shops that will just tell you what you want to hear and can't back it up with their skills or resources are very bad. However -- I'd say that it can be just as annoying to deal with a shop that feels they're too good for you and, if you don't want to follow their exact guidance and pay their prices, then that's just too bad for you.

There's got to be the right middle ground here -- something like: be honest, have integrity, be helpful, provide value, and treat your customers with respect (even when they need to be educated).

As for what he's saying, I know all about it OH TOO WELL, unfortunately
Vinny never had a 350z to drive around of his own.

That video was a hit on some guys that used to work for him. Vinny does great head work and is very skilled at what he does. When I owned a shop a customer of his went threw 2 motors (twin turbo jim wolf bolt on kit). I built the motor and it made the power that jim wolf said his kit would. the engine harness was beyond repair and needed replacing. I heard that that motor blew up two years later on the dyno with a tuner that made a mistake. A costly one.. lol.

I agree. I am lucky to have a great team behind me at my facility and we are all honest and straight forward with all of our clients.

Thanks for the additional info. I have no doubt that he's a great guy and extremely knowledgable about his craft. In fact, he's the kind of person I'd want working on my car. I was just commenting on my initial reaction to the video (without knowing the full context of background). At first, I was mesmerized and listening intently. As it went on, it started to sound a little old and whiny. Maybe I'll go back and watch it again....

Really, you guys like his rant. Maybe I see it from another angle as I am not a young guy. Sure he has points, that are obvious to me and many by the way, but he is missing a big point here. He is in the business of providing service... customer service. His rant sounds like he has been doing this too long (like he is doing his customers a favor). Customers, young and old, come to him for help in solving a problem or accomplishing a challenge. In this video (which I am sure he is not like this in front of his customers), he doesn't come across like someone I would want to spend my time and money, regardless of how good he is at his trade. People in the customer service busines have to always remember, there are alway other great competitors/alternatives, thus you can't get to convinced you are the only one. I am sure Vinny is a great guy and tradesman, clearly not challenging that here. Just saying, if I was Vinny, I would not want this video up.

No where in his rant did I see him say he disrespects customers. No where in his rant did he say he was the only game in town. He just states that its the nature of the business, people look for the best deal first and not the best tuner/builder and the majority of the time that is true. And customers pay the price by getting screwed and then going somewhere else to get it fixed. Happens all the time. But then they expect a good deal for the fix, where had they gone to the right place in the first place they would have payed less in the long run. The general point he made is inarguable. I don't know this guy and how good his business is, but his points are certainly valid. He also never stated that there aren't other good tuner/builders, in fact he indicated that he had been to other great shops. So again, I did not get the same out of the video that you did.
