Tuning the oem ecu? What's needed?

What is needed to tune the factory ecu in the 996/997?

(ie. HP tuners for Chevy LSX engines, SCT for the ford cars)

+1 and if you have no tools to read the eeprom itself then you need something like a Byteshooter and then if you want to emulate you need another tool. Then get a copy of WinOLS unless you are VERY familiar with Hex code. That takes the 12k to 30-35k. The piece to emulate I use to have the website saved but it's been awhile since i even looked at it.

And also like Mark said the map structure is insane how many maps mess with each other, etc.

I am from the Mustang / LS1 world. If you are on LS1Tech it's a good guess that I am also Mr Powell. I am very familiar with LS1/LT1 Edit, HPTuners, and SCT. I've tuned or helped tune on all of them. The amount of tables just in fuel/timing is more tables than HP Tuners period.
