Help! Car shuts off at idle

Hi,
I got a 01 996TT. My car shuts off when I'm at a stoplight or idling in traffic or put it in park when the engine runing. Car runs fine while driving down the road. Any ideas on what this could be?
Thanks

First of all, congrats for owning a 996TT in China. I travel there often and your highways are beautiful. I'm assuming you have a tip? You may have a vacuum leak.

Thanks for the compliment. I have a manual. My car had a vacuum leak about 3 years ago.

My car does this occasionally too. I have no vacuum leaks and it has been doing this from when I had an OEM flywheel/clutch. Mainly when the RPM drops down and doesn't catch itself and just dies... not sure if we have a similar problem but I could never figure out why this happens...

The car did it when it was stock w/ only a flash... since then spark plugs, injectors, clutch, flywheel and tune have been changed and it does the same exact thing...

Any help would be appreciated as well.

Have you guys tried servicing/cleaning then cycling (hold key in on position for 2 min then restart) the throttle body?

Same thing here.

It's a random problem and has only actually happened to me twice, but i've noticed after I start the car and am backing out when the car is still idleing up when cold if I blip the throttle sometimes it doesn't settle back at the 1100rpm mark or so and if it drops below it can die.

Doesn't appear to be an issue for me at operating temp. Do these car's have idle control motors, etc that can fail?

Hello All,

my car used to die when coming to a stop, particularly if I was coming in "with gusto". It turned out I had a slit in the f-hose. Replaced it and that solved the problem. Fresh plugs are also a good thing.

I had the same problem--it wouldn't do it all the time, but enough to become annoying. It would happen after running the car as normal, then, pulling into a parking lot or the garage--as soon as the idle would drop, it would hiccup and then stall. Recently, I had the engine apart to install a new oil pressure sending unit. Part of that service was removing the throttle body which I happened to note was really gunked up with carbon and sludge. I used some throttle body cleaner and scrubbed it really well with a tooth brush. After reassembling everything, the car runs like a champ. No sputter, no hiccups, no stalls and much smoother throttle response.

Moral of the story is try cleaning your throttle body, did the trick for me!

My car does something similar on a cold start but

Does not stall, happens after a couple seconds, rpm's drop, down, ecu seems to catch it then rpm's rise to around 1100 then after 30-40 seconds idle settles in at around 900 rpm's. figured this was normal.
