The droplink joints are metal vs some plastic bushing material. Don't recommend silicone. Any grease is good. Thinner oil will stop it momentarily but it comes back soon. GL

I have the same creaking sound and I have PSS9 with Techart springs. Please post what fixes it. I'm in Phoenix and it's still 100+ here so I don't want to spend too much time in the garage.

Thanks,
Tim

?? Snapping lugs. Where do you get the lugs from and did you really get the right taper angle and all that?

I never snapped a single one, in my life (knock on wood).
Also not on my CF10 I have now (exact same lug model/dimensions/brand). On racetrack and in canyon with very sticky tires and using all power.

I could imagine if they possibly are overtorqued, they could snap quite easily. Or if one lug comes a bit loose and you don't notice and keep driving, then retighten it much later, loose bolts are throwaway items, they get damaged. Not saying you did, just ideas.

honestly wish i knew. the first! time it was the f'star supplied ones.. remember the shiny chrome? .. they snapped ( apparently it's a known issue with the forgestar chrome lugs but mostly under track conditions, was told, and i'm not the only one ) and i just blamed the cheap *** lugs on a nation of billions so i replaced them with what i thought were correct size US made, whatever.. and i've done it again. have no idea what i'm doing beyond driving it like it likes. never had this happen before, and i've had a few sets of wheels too. only on the f14's. i just found the pieces of three that snapped in front of my house today. they fell out of the wheel as i limped home.. scary. yeah, overtorquing is the ONLY thing that occurs to me too! thanks.

sorry for the threadjack. hoping to get a look under the car again tomorrow.. while properly installing new lugs

i had the same problem after having my pss9's installed, the installer had not re-installed the thrust washers, my new mechanic bought them and installed them, there is no noise at all now

the previous installer tried grease and some plastic part he had made but this didnt fix the problem, when i went to them and suggested they may not have installed the washers, they told me they had, i gave them 3 chances to fix the problem and nothing they did helped so i went to a new mechanic and he discovered immediately what the problem was...the washers were missing ! the owner of the previous company had told me he personaly saw them being installed ! after i threatened legal action the first mechanic finally wrote me check to cover the cost of the second mechanic, except the cost of the alignment as he didnt think that was necessary !

Buzz,

I'm pretty sure the OEM suspension does not use the thrust washer bearings. I added them with the PSS-9's years ago.

Just did lowering springs last week and I will say on my '01 that the bearings were ball bearings and they actually had split in half over time. Oddly enough I never had any noise until after I put the lowering springs on?? But if anyone needs them here's the link to order the part: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...30%35%29%20%20

i'm becoming fairly certain by this point, that the springs are going to always be an issue and prone to pops/creaks. but in my case, it's only parking/hard turns anyway.. so it's not that big a deal really. just annoying/embarrasing! the trade off on my cheaping out and not going the coilovers route. problem is, i like the ride/stance and don't feel i need the added "stuff" for how/where i drive. although, with my snapping wheel lugs, perhaps i should put the cage back in the car

until then, i'm waiting on gearhead to figure this thing out for us.. and a torque wrench for my new lugs

the owner of the shop told me they had re-installed them and he saw it being done, either they were lying and they were never on the car so they didnt re-install them, or they were lying and they should have ordered them when i told them that was the cause of the problem, either way they were lying and once the washers were installed by my new mechanic the problem dissapeared completely

i researched the problem and found a bunch of other people who once thrust washers were installed the creaking/twanging noise problem was solved

Agreed - it's the proper fix, IMO.
