Has anyone driven in Stuttgart and Munich in the winter...in a 911?
I am planning a trip to Germany at the end of the year and plan is to hit all the major car museums (BMW, Porsche, Audi, BMW) and rent a 911. I would be going from 12/27 to 1/5 and while excited about the idea and I am worried about finding bad road conditions and traffic jams. Has anyone drive a similar itinerary in the winter? Rough plan is Munich, Ingolstadt, Stuttgart, Innsbruck, Salzburg and then back to Munich. I have 8 days and the itinerary is ~1000 km. The car rental is through Avis and they give you 200 km per day so I have plenty of extra kms if I decide to explore other areas. I would greatly appreciate any advise!

I worked in that area several years ago and at the time had two rentals S class that was a bit sloppy and a FWD TDi VW. The VW was unstoppable. If you can find a 4S you should be just fine. I'm sure they put appropriate tires on for the season. There ate plenty of people that use these cars year round and unless big accumulation can get by with the best of them.
Be sure to post pics of the trip- sounds like a blast!

If you get a TT you won't have any trouble at all. I drive mine all winter and it drives like a tank in the snow - absolutely amazing. Most of the time you don't even notice there is snow on the ground.

you will be fine, what else do you want to see ? would you like for example some mountain roads or maybe limitless speeding on highway, just to know what to recommend to you. I have been @ porsche and bmw museums and both are nice. Near porsche is mahle also, pistons producers, you may want to take a look.

Thanks for the responses. The best deal that I have found on car rentals, is a base 911 for ~$2500 usd for 8 days. I also found a turbo but it was $6500 for the week which is ridiculous. However, I am bummed that all the factories (Porsche, Audi, Mercedes) are closed for the holidays and I am therefore rethinking the trip. Has anyone done the factories and are they worth it enough to delay the trip? It is my first trip to Germany so I want to see a bit of everything. Priority is #1 car museums, #2 nices towns/castles #3 autobahn driving. Any recos welcome!

That part of Europe really doesn't get that much snow. A couple of weeks a year tops and most of the time, it is more in January-February. Your chances are pretty high you'll be fine. It is also not very common to have several snow days on end.
I'm from Belgium and most people drive their cars year round (including lots of rwd BMW's). Granted a 911 has a little more rubber on the ground
Oh wait, are you from CA? If yes, forget it, you will kill yourself (j/k)
