Getting a free front bumper from Geico, any reason not to put on a GT2 look bumper?
I had the Turbo towed to the dealer after a coolant fitting went. AAA did.the towing and banged up my front bumper pretty good. So I got $1200 for the bumper cover, $500 for the lip and $200 for a broken grille inside the bumper. The Precision Porsche GT2 look front bumper is only $1900, and since it comes with the lip and grilles, ill pretty much be getting it for free. So my question is, is there any problems with just throwing this bumper on? I know there's more ground clearance with the gt2, does this make the car look funny if it's not lowered? Also does it match the profile of the stock side skirts? Does the gt2 have different side skirts? Also can someone explain to me exactly what the deal is with the ducting, specifically for this gt2 "look" bumper? It says on vivid's website that you can put it on "as-is" or but the center duct for a gt2, is this true?, how much more work is it? Also is there anywhere to get the hood grille, or screen (I think that's what it's called, the strip that goes across the gt2 bumper). Thanks for any and all help.

I appreciate the advice but I can get this bumper for free and the OEM gt2 bumper costs thousands that id rather spend elsewhere. I have considered regular OEM replacement, and that's why I started this thread, to discuss the pros and cons of the aftermarket bumper.

The bumper is a simple swap, but it is absolutely true that you should do the proper ducting behind it. There are known issues if you just do the cosmetics. Problem is the "behind the scenes" parts far exceed the cost of the bumper, so unless you want to shell out about $2K+ more, you may be inviting cooling issues.
My two cents.
I'd like to do mine, but it's not worth $4K for me.

I have a spare never used RUF RTurbo front bumper with all the supporting hardware that has all the aero benefits of a Porsche GT2 front bumper and is made of proper polyurethane which is the same as OEM.
Here is mine and I'm that PWDRHOUND can vouch for his fit and finish. PM me if you're interested.

man, that's one good lookin' front end. your extra bumper.. is it for sale?
back on topic.. i would think that if you do the front gt2 lookalike, every day you'll see the stock rear decklid and think something is missing. it's one of those "no one but you will know it's only half right". then there are the ducting issues..... i dunno, but to each his own, and you did say "free". lol.
also.. it's pretty easy to have those screens custom made to fit by folks that know these cars, if rennline doesn't bring them to market soon. good idea. it's on my ( ahem ) "list".

Yes, i'll sell it. I bought it for another future 996 conversion but I have no use for it right now. It comes with a proper insert in front of the hood to extract the air that flows through the lower air damn creating downforce.

The air front the left, right, and center sections needs to flow though the outlet in front of the hood. This is what creates the downforce on the front axle. The RUF Rturbo setup as well as the OEM GT2/3 include special ducting to channel through the center outlet vent vs. the stock 996 Turbo ducting that directs the air out the front fender wells. So to me, the behind the scenes effects matter just as much especially as speed increases.

I've also heard people (not you) make a big deal about the stock rear wing staying in the down position and how it might be a bit dangerous and I've never had a problem with that either...so just wanting to get a better read on what the perceived problems are with the front bumper being partially converted to GT2 spec.
From my ownership perspective there are no such issues with either the GT2 front bumper skin or a permanently lowered rear Turbo wing, yet I do see occasional threads where these issues are brought up and discussed.
