Wheels & Tires setup for 800+rwhp GT2
Hey guys new member here just joined this great forum
Trying to help a friend getting the right size wheels & tires for his soon to be 800+rwhp GT2 I talked to John @ CCW he recommended 18×9 Front and 18×12 rear what do you guys think? Which tires?? the owner is thinking about MT 315/30/18 ? I Think the 345/35/18 will rub very badly right?
Anyone have pics with 17s setup front & back? do you guys think going 40 or 45 profile tires will help traction and gear ratio with 17 wheels??
The car is Street/highway beast for 180+mph runs old setup was 765rwhp with the new turbos/intercooler and fuel system we're shooting for 800-900rwhp on race fuel.
Thanks in advance guys...
Sam.

A taller tire will help with traction as much as a 17" tire with a taller sidewall (except for off the line traction).
You can stay with an 18", just make sure you get soemething at least 26" tall.
I don't believe you're going to get traction with any kind of street tire, but the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is about as good as they come for grip.
"R" compound tires aren't that good for grip across a broad temperature range and typically have stuff sidewalks that hurt off the line traction.
A drag radial is your best bet for straight line traction, but I've never been a big fan, since I prefer the twisties.

There are plenty of gripper tires than the pilot super sport.
Starting with the hankook RS3, the Toyo 888, Hankook Z221, ,Mickety Thompson Drag radial.....

My feelings are that you either get a drag radial for launching or a high performance tire for the twisties, but you wont get both out of a STREET tire. If you went with some racing slicks, you may come close just dont try driving in the rain. Heres a good video about too much hp and twisties.

Best bet is to get rid of the rubber out of the suspension. Pm me for more info if you want. I run the m/t 305/35/18 dr's and know others..

The M/T is a drag radial and the Z221 and R888 are both "R" compound tires.
The only "street tire" you mentioned was the RS3. And though it did beat the PSS is dry braking and slightly in the dry skidpad, the PSS bested it in all other categories including the dry autocross. Given the wet performance of the RS3, I believe you will find that any dry traction advantage it has over the PSS will be lost as the outside temperature drops.
I'm not a "Michelin fan boy", but was so impressed with the PSS's at the roadcourse and on the street, that I now have a set for all three of my cars.
I do agree that the RS3 is a great street tire, but the PSS will last longer, is quieter (especially after some miles), works better as the temperature drops, works in the wet, costs less and has almost identical dry grip.

I always like our Comp Series. The P40SC or R40 are great options also.
I'm a big fan of this quote.
Quote from Underground Racing: "The ONLY wheel we trust at these speeds are HREs."
If your looking for super lightweight and serious you can wait for our new Carbon Series. Looking at Q1 of 2013. In the 15 lb range for 19".

Thanks for all the replies guys great info...
Eric Thanks for the PM Since I only have 3 posts I still can't reply to your PM but please send any pics you have for HRE's and BBS's wheels you have.
What rear tires did you run on 800rwhp GT2? How was the traction from low rolls? How wide the rear wheels?
Sam.

I'll look and see what sizes I have tried and give a quick review later tonight or tomorrow.
