Chicago 94 octane

I was getting sputtering in my evo GT700 and Todd told me the program was for 94 octane. Does anyone in Chicago know where to get 94 octane? I live downtown, and I know there is a station on Irving Park Rd near Midwest Eurosport, but with the small tank and low range, it does not make sense. any thoughts

Thanks!

Austin

Even if you run 93 octane, you woulnd't get "sputtering" caused by the 1 point lower rating. You may have a bad tank of gas. Are you running rich? Sputter at idle, WOT? All the time? Eliminate the octane as being the cause by filling up once with it.

york and irving park has 100 octane.
ur sputtering has nothing to do with bad gas...
if ur car does it at FULL throttle, like mine did, its because ur plugs are messed up. I changed mine out and the problem went away.
why do u have a 94 octane program from giac if u live in Chicago? I have a 93 and a 100 via the odb switcher- works like a charm.

I dont know, this is what Todd put in. He says he has a 91 program, is there also a 93 program?

I just changed the plugs and it still does the sputtering/bogging down. usually happens in 4th and 5th gear above 1 bar, when you are stepping on it. does not happen in 1st or second gear.

Assuming no electrical problem, the primary cause of bogging down at high rpm's is running too rich. Take a look at your secondary O2 sensor readings and MAF. You might want to clean the MAF with electronic spray cleaner. Make sure there is no intake blockage.

when I start the car, it shoots out a lot of grey smoke; does this mean it is running to rich in your opinion?

Gray smoke is typically oil being burned off. Black smoke would indicate overly rich conditions. Beside checking your sensor readings, make sure the throttlebody is clean and run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in a fresh tank of gas. Have you changed where you buy gas from lately? Symptom can also be caused by poor quality fuel. (Not low octane, but bad fuel).

u could have messed them up again- like I did...twice in 1 week
do u have a AFR meter hooked up? to check if u are running too LEAN... mabey running out of fuel and overboosting? I had the same problem- only in 4th,5th or 6th.
are u running a stock fuel pressure regulator? or a 5 bar.
BTW- what are u boosing at full throttle in 4th,5th or 6th?
U r not running too rich- Im doing 11.1 afr at full throttle and my car doesnt sputter. most cars dont run below 12.2 afr.
dont touch the MAF with anything, not even air hose- cause u will be spending $350 on a new one.
are u overboosting? do u get 1.4 bar spikes @ full throttle in 4rth or 5th?

Without getting into addressing your sputtering problem - there is 100 octane unleaded available at the pump from the what I believe is now a "Gas City" on the corner of Washington and Golf Rd.

I always ran high octane in my old Supra and think it's worth it if the car isn't a daily driver. Better power, better reliability, better safety.

I dont think that gas station gas city exists anymore... it might be a clark station...and someone told me that they do not carry race fuel.
anyone knows for sure.. please let me know.

Markski,

I don't know if you remember me, I met you once - I am a friend of David & Violetta's...

Anyways, they did tear it down (it was a 2001 Gas Station) and you are right, it is now a Clark station and I KNOW for a fact they carry 100 octane unleaded. I know the owner of the station and was one of the people that pushed him to carry it again. I've already pumped it into my E55. It's a bit pricey for 100 but it's at the pump and in a very convenient location for me.
