Need help figuring out factory custom paint code
Hey all, I have a 996TT with factory "Ferrari Yellow" paint, and I'm having a hard time figuring out the correct paint code and process. The factory decal inside the front trunk behind the trim says "10L 9 WBL, FERRARI YELLOW", which doesn't seem to mean anything in any of the German paint vendor systems. The other thing I'm having a bit of trouble with is that it appears that this might be a three stage paint job, with an intermediate gold or green coat. I'm kinda wondering if that code on the decal indicates this or not. Someone did a hit and run on my car on NYE so the front bumper cover and hood need work, and this is the first time the car has needed paint. The local body shops are not particularly optimistic about matching this perfectly without more information (one is going to shoot some test panels for me with 2002 Ferrari Yellow next week).

No, mine is a paint to sample, paint code L998. As best as I can tell, 10L is actually the Porsche paint code for for "Ferrari Fly Yellow". I wonder why it isn't appearing in the Spies Hecker database. I still have no idea what the 9 or the WBL mean.

For anyone considering this as a custom color, FYI, I tried several other body shops, had test panels sprayed from various paint manufacturers, and their equivalents were not a match. I finally took the car to Matchless in Fairfax VA. They were able to make a custom match with their PPG paint match system, which I think uses a calibrated color sensor to measure the existing paint and then provides the correct mix ratios for the shop to create a match from PPG components. I can say that it is indistinguishable from the factory Ferrari Fly Yellow, a really amazing match.
Just so there is no confusion, PPG's catalog "Ferrari Fly Yellow" color is _NOT_ a match for the Porsche factory color from Glasurit.
