Unhappy CEL on aftermarket exhaust..

well after 30 miles driving with the new Remus Exhaust on 996TT, I get the Check Engine Light.

Is this a common thing with aftermarket exhausts? I hesitate to take it to Porsche.. my mechanic friend says he can check the codes and figure it out from there.

Usually what is the problem.. affected O2 sensor? Any general tips?

Thanks in advance!

Don't worry. You might have put the wrong o2 sensors on wrong (upstream vs downstream) or a wire might not be connected. Do you have cats in the exhaust?

This is all that came with the Remus exhaust...

If we had put the O2 sensors in wrong, wouldn't it trigger it much earlier, as opposed to 30 miles and 2 days later?

Do you happen to know the cell rating on your cats?

Yeah, 200 cell *might* throw a code just for the reason that your downstream o2 sensor might think that there are no cats. That's a tough call. At 200, I would still figure that it wouldn't throw a code, but who knows.

You just need to hook up an ODBII port scanner and read the codes. Advanced Auto (or is it Autozone) will do it for free. 9 times out of 10, however, a CEL is a relatively easy emissions fix on an ODBII car.

just got the code..

Fuel Error Metering..

P1130

doesn't sound like it's part of the exhaust.

And looking at renntech.org..

P1128 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 2 (Cylinders 1 . 3) - Rich Threshold
P1130 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 2 (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Rich Threshold

thread on renntech

That code is telling you that you are ruuning extremely LEAN at WOT. Check intake, fuel injector flow and fuel pressure. At minimum. hook up a F/A gauge to the exhaust to verify that you are not really running lean. Get a scanner that shows sensor readings and look at the after cat sensor readings at WOT.

thanks guys.. since it is not really "blamable" on the aftermarket exhaust, I had my friend take my car to HBL Porsche.

My friend reset the CEL.. and it will probably come back on.

We'll see what they say :-) I'll be sure to update.. thanks all.

I still think that it is an O2 sensor that is getting the wrong reading because of the exhaust. My guess is that the 200-cell cats aren't taking up enough of the exhaust gases and it thinks that you are hitting the "rich" threshold. This is just a guess, however, as I have never seen this code before. Let us know how it plays out.
