Can't Clear codes; can't start car
#16
Hi guys, as an update. I did get the 'recharged' battery back in the car. I cleared codes and the car started up. It ran for about 5 minutes without anything happening and I shut it off.
Next day I go out to start and the codes were back and car wouldn't start.
So something is happening while the car is completely off to throw these codes? I pulled the seat up and checked connection to the DME (ECU, not sure the best term there). Is there any thing I could damage by unplugging it and plugging it back in?
I just don't understand how something could occur with the car completely off. When the car is running it will run for about the same amount of time each time and then I get 'PSM Failure' and 'Failure indicator' and car shuts off and won't restart.

Hi Jim, I do think you are correct. He said it failed the 'low cycle' (I think) and said he would have it ready to go the next day. It seems to be doing its job now.
You probably mis-heard him, as I don't know of anyone credible who could claim they are going to "rebuild" our batteries. Many of the "bad" batteries returned to us under warranty are just deeply-discharged and work fine, when properly-recharged. It is possible he is just charging the battery back up. I would be interested in hearing the outcome of this.

I read this post and it's a little scary. Is there any way to check the PSM system? I'm going to trace wires today and see what I can find. I did install my own lowering springs and did brake pads about 6 months ago. But have had no PSM lights or issues.

UPDATE: I unplugged the ECU, and the PSM module. Checked all ABS lines and PSM wires in the wheel wells. As of right now the car is running fine and driving.
For some reason I can't get the engine bay light to go off even when the car is turned off. But that's my only issue right now.

Leave the car sit a while and the battery could recover and you can get the same symptoms.
(A couple of weeks ago, during a visit to a Porsche dealer a Porsche tech had a Cayenne in the service bay doing the same thing and that was his diagnosis.)
Unless there is evidence of moisture in the car, under the seat leave the security module alone. The behavior does not point to that component and if you unplug it and plug it back in you risk static discharge or screwing up a connector.

Sorry to see you are having problems, I know your pain! I saw that you posted in the southeast section to see if any people are down in your area and I am down in Columbus as well. Hit me up if you want to meet up sometime.

for my understanding a canbus communication problem....if one adress fails the bus is interrupted..
failures possible...cables at instrument k21
failures at bus cables abs
failures at bus cables psm
failure at dme
failure a secure module...connectors?
not easy to find...you can check your k21 instrument...connectors out and contact spray...dme connectors same and abs connectors same..(all without battery)
check cables along this route...good luck to find it ...

Very cool, I didn't know there were any enthusiasts around. I sent you a PM.
As of right now I think the car is back in operation. I unplugged ECU and PSM module and plugged back in and the car runs and drives alright. I'm a little gunshy driving far from home at this point. Just hoping I'm good from now on.

I know this fix was too easy. The problem is back. Drove the car for a short errand and got a mile down the road and it shut down. Seems like it was triggered by just going over some bumps or rough road.
Just had it towed back.
I can get the car to reset by unplugging the PSM module. So probably a dumb question but are there any PSM wires in the rear of the car or just the front?

No, they are just the closest shop to me. The closest Porsche dealer is Jack Ingram in Montgomery and I just figured I would try APR. I have an EPL flash.

Last week while driving my car just totally stopped running.
I bought a Durametric and have pulled codes from the car. But I can't clear them. When I hit clear codes they don't go away.
Here's what the codes are:
5522
DME: CAN message missing
ABS/PSM 5.7Module Identification
9110
DME control unit
Instrument Cluster K21Module Identification
Automatic Air Conditioning H01
Current Fault Codes
35:
Instrument cluster signal fault (see instr. cluster fault mem.)
I disconnected battery and let sit for 30 minutes and the car ran for about 3 minutes tonight. Then I had an ABS failure light come on and then this Failure Indicator Light.
I'm very frustrated.

I can't pm at the moment, does anyone know what the solution was for Hix ? Or hopefully he will see this
Thanks
