Is this a good deal?
There is a guy locally to me selling a 2001 911 Turbo and is asking $41,000 for it. It looks perfectly, but photos can look better than it does in person. I plan on checking it out tonight. The car has about 54,000 miles and also has a EvoMS GT700 package on it. My assumption, and his to, is that this is 700hp but he only has owned it a year himself and never had it dynoed. It also is a Tiptronic which I didn't like at first but seems to be alright. I think I could roll with an "auto". But is $41,000 good for this? If it was bone stock, I would say no but with the EvoMS GT700 upgrade it seems like a steal. And do these type of cars come up often at this price point? My concern is missing out on what to me looks like a great deal but if a few months from now the same deal can be found, I would rather wait.

Be careful about the gt700 kit being fully installed. Most shops "pieced" these kits together. Take the car to a shop that is a evom dealer that know about the gt700 for a ppi. The gt700 kit is a good setup and makes for a fun drive.

I did plan on getting a PPI. I believe the seller has all the documents from when the car was first bought, so I would be able to see who installed the kit. He mentioned though it was like $45,000.

Being a pasted owner of a shop and seeing some cars that the supporting doc's do not reflect what is done to the car, I gave you the best advise I can. Not putting down any shop our saying that this car is not what it is. Just stating that if you want a 700 kit and do not know what is truly involved what will you get? Ball bearing turbos? or the cheaper slower to spool journal bearing turbo? Did you get the clutch in the kit? did you get the fuel line upgrade? boost hoses? DV's? Injectors? evom's tune? Turbo inlet piping? evoms lists the 700 kit at 24,900 plus install. You can also buy the kits parts separate.

But it is good to know to go to a shop that does EvoMS. That I was not thinking about.

But what I am concerned about is the value of the car at $41,000. If the GT700 parts on there is the full and everything that EvoMS has for this package, would it be worth it? I just don't know. Or do these come up often for sale? Like i was saying, if another one shows up for sale in a few months at that price, I'd be all over it for sure then.

I did tell the guy from the get go I want it inspected from the get go. I wouldn't have a warranty and it wouldn't be cheap to fix. I wish I did that on an ///M3 I had that had issues and I couldn't afford to fix it. Never new for certain what was wrong but it was burning coolant even after I had the head worked on, and even improved for performance. After the head work, I couldn't afford anything else. It was warped a bit but that was fixed (shaved down) and still kept burning coolant.

Honestly the price sounds right for the car without any 'kit' on it. 2001 cars with lowish miles should be 38-43K. I think the add-ons are just a plus. But yes, you certainly want to make sure everything works alright.

Almost sounds too good to be true if it does have the upgrade. If indeed he spent 45K for the upgrade (I smell BS)why sell the vehicle for 41K. Going price for a tip with ~50K miles should be around $34-37K.

on the other hand ( not thumb ) a 6mt? yes of course! but a tip steer clear my .02

If it was a stick, it would likely be worth close to the asking $41k with only 54k miles. With the Tip, not so sure. If it is a GT700 car, probably wasn't driven like an old lady..which won't hurt the engine, but the transmission? Hmmm...Unless it is a built transmission (assuming it isn't) it isn't long for this world at 500whp. That will definitley be a $4k-$7k fix. You will likely never have to fix a 6 speed manual transmission, unless you plan to make 1000whp.
As Tim advised, take it to someone who is an Evoms dealer. THEY can do the PPI and THEYwill know if it is in fact a true Evoms kit and not a collection of parts. If you can't do this, walk away...PLENTY of cars out there. Don't get star struck.

Can you really live with a Tip? Will you get tired of it and at some point want a 6 speed?
Here's a local (SF Bay Area) TT with Tip on Craigslist: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/3596506383.html
Looks stock. It appears in line with prices stated above for comparison. Good luck. What happened at the inspection? Keep us posted.

I think I know which car you're looking at. I've also been shopping around and a mutual friend of mine and the seller told me about that car. I haven't seen it in person, but from word of mouth is sounds like a pretty decent price, especially at $41k. Last I heard it was ~$43k.
The Tiptronic is probably the main thing keeping the price as low as it is. If this were a manual I'm guessing it could be closer to mid $40k range.
I've also heard rumor of another 996TT in the Seattle area that may be coming up for sale this spring. I have seen this car in person a few times and the only thing holding me back from purchasing it is the color. Where I live I would have to wash it daily, but it does look incredible.
