p1349 Code questions

For starters I have read all the posts related to this code. Can a regular reader/scanner reset this code? I have a basic scanner and tried to erase code although it did not work. I want to see if this code comes back. It came up after a cold hard day of driving. No current problems with engine...car pulls and takes off like a rocket ship. I read about checking or replacing sensor is there a guide on how to do this?

Thanks in advance
